Does anyone know what the difference is between an SG Special guitar and an SG Standard guitar because both these types of electric guitar have two humbucking pickups?  :)  :)

SG specials have different pickups in them - the standard has a 498t in the bridge position and the special has the 490t. the 498 has more wire wound round the pickup poles which results in a higher output. Bascially it sounds better. There are also some other cosmetic differences - the speical has dot inlays instead of funny squares, and the special doesnt come in all the same colours. The speical's also come in nasty gibson gig bags while the standards come in a hard case. The standards also come with chrome covers on their pickups, and the wood used for standards tends to be a bit better (they are heavier as well)

Basically the standard is a nicer guitar than the special, and not too expensive if you get it 2nd had or off ebay. If your looking for the real Oldfield guitar you need to find yourself an SG Juior (like me! )
