I know the thread is 19 years old but wtf...
I interviewed Tim Cross, and he informed me that he (Tim, that is) wrote the "fugue" section of Orabidoo (the one at 7:00). That part is re-used in Taurus II, so I guess technically Tim should be credited on that track too. He also said Rick Fenn and Maggie wrote the "Ireland's eye" section of the same song.
So the group did contribute more than lyrics. I also think that FMO benefits from that diversity, with more styles. Amarok is great, but all the melodies are fairly typical Mike Oldfield melodies. Mixing things up is a good thing sometimes.
