YES most definitely, you just HAVE to HAVE Ommadawn no Mike Oldfield collection is complete without Ommadawn. It's my favourite Mike album,no my favourite album of all time . It's groundbreaking in that it's perhaps the first album to mix what's now called "World Music" with rock and Celtic music. George Harrison introduced Indian music into The Beatles, and Brian Jones played sitar on Paint it Black, and Led Zeppelin's Kashmir has Arabic musical influences. In 1971 an album "Brian Jones Presents The Pipes of Pan at Joujouka" was released, a recording of The Master Musicians of Joujouka Brian made on a trip to Morrocco in 1967. I guess the PofP was the first album of world music to be released, in the west. As this LP is very rare I've never heard it,sounds interesting. Ommadawn I would consider the first album to combine various forms of world music throughout, rather than say just introducing it for one song.
When you do hear Ommadawn youll, most likely laugh, cry, smile, what I'm saying is Ommadawn is a fantastic ride of emotions,I guess your reaction depends upon how you're feeling when you play it , however Ommadawn makes me feel there's always the childlike innocence of On Horseback,to bring a happy ending .
Formore on world music, including the Master Musicians of Joujouka see here, unfortunately no mentionof Ommadawn is made here www.wikipedia.org/wiki/world_music
