Okay - I own up. If you didn't already know, I much prefer Mike's 70s output to anything since. Since those glory days, at least Crises, FMO, HO and Amaraok offered long instrumental tracks (around 20 mins or more).

What are the chances of Mike releasing long instrumental passages of 20mins + in the future?

Yeah, next album is supposed to have 3 side long tracks. Heheh... lucky for him he don't use vinyl anymore, would be a strange look to get an lp with 3 sides  :O  :p

Hmmm... there were some threads about it... can't remember exactly, but it might very well be in the thread about his book.

the official fan club web site has some info:

Quote
Mike delighted every fan when he spoke about his next project in a Radio 2 interview yesterday, which will be an instrumental in 3 long involved pieces, not setting out to be cool, hip or sexy and with no drum loops - "me making my kind of music". He then plans to take it on tour, doing "proper, real live concerts... I want to recapture what I set out trying to do back in the seventies... people want to listen to something special with a lot of detail and work, dynamics, tempo changes, a great big landscape". Mike's contract allows him up to three years to complete it to perfection, leaving little doubt there's another career highlight of true undiluted creativity on its way!

If that album doesn't sell more than at least 75 million copies, I'll eat my hat

3-sided vinyls by Italian artists have often appeared in the past, I've got at least four. They're just double albums, but one side of the second album of each is totally blank. :)

The double-LP edition of Sigur Rós' takk... follows this format. The non-playing side of the second vinyl has an etched design.

Oh, of course...

I'm surprised that Mike's Ibiza-era dance music such as The Source of Secrets never made it to vinyl. He could have had 'Froggy Went A-Courting' as the surprise B-side ;).

Isn't that the name of the Max Headroom short film?

The news that he was going a bit back to what he set out to do delighted me. I think he lost his way over the last years 90's/2000 and his music was appealing to me less and less. But, now it's got me all excited again. More fun than a pully with a rubber chicken on the end i can tell ya.

2.5 year to wait mind, but i don't mind.. I'd rather wait and get something special than another half hearted attempt.

Yeah, good point. I kind of feel the same way...
For me, I've a feeling that he didn't really make a 'great' album after 1999's Guitars. (maybe L&S is a little exception).
So yes, it's time for another really really good piece of work, like he made lots of in the 90's (Amarok, Distant Earth, TB2,3, Voyager etc.)
