I am wondering if there is other artist who’s work you believe is similar in some way to Mikes.

I am currently listening to a guy called Nick Drake, I watched a documentary on this UK born Musician recently on SBS here in Australia, I went out the next day and bought one of his albums (Five Leaves Left).

Does anyone else here have any of Nick's work

He reminds me of Mike's style although I can't really put my finger on it. Sort of folksy, understated yet musicianship is exceptional and jumps out at me, Nick seemed to suffer in the same way that Mike did at least in his early days from shyness and a feeling of not being good enough, but most of all they are both very introspective.

I think this inward looking nature of Nicks created some great lyrics and music but among other things was Nicks down fall, as he led a troubled life that ended when he committed suicide.

It's seeing talent like this seemingly wasted, cut short before reaching it’s full potential or in fact being recognised publicly, it makes me happy that Mike lives on and still shares his gift with us.

If you have not heard any of Nick's work I'd recommend giving it a listen.

So, is there anyone that you think compares artistically in anyway to Mike.

Try the following:

Stephen Caudel - Wine Dark Sea,
Medwyn Goodhall - Millenium,
Ian Boddy - The Uncertainty Principle,
Jon Dyson - Evolution,
Andy Pickford - Replicant,
Bekki Williams - Elysian Fields,
Paul Ward - For a Knave

That's just for starters - excellent music!

Cheers,

T4

Just found this topic. I also recommend some Oldfieldish music according to my taste:

Ken Baird: August - atmospherically very close to Ommadawn.
Medwyn Goodall: Fair Queen Guinevre - for those who love Voyager.
Kollár Attila: Musical Witchcraft - this album has a kind of medieval atmosphere, with calmer, more acoustic and also heavier tracks with great flute and guitar melodies - recalling Mike's guitar style to me.
Shaped Signs: Nature's Odyssey - the most TSODE-like (wonderful) music I've heard.
Amarok: Neo Way - the title tracks on this album really reminds me of Mike's style and melodies.
Engel: Engel - a very diversified album with strong, Oldfieldian melodies and a distinctive guitar sounding. Besides, it has some kind of charm I also love in Mike's music.
Tribute: New Views - instrumental rock somewhere between Mike, Yes and Genesis, and even though I don't really like Yes and Genesis, I love this album.

Anyway, does anyone have the Polish female duo Van & Borner's Miracles album? It's mentioned in two articles that it reminds the reviewers of Mike's music: here and here.

Yeah, I have all of Nick's records.  He was a beautiful singer and songwriter and an exceptional guitar player.  He played a nylon string guitar, and had big hands with long fingers and was capable of some dizzy heights of musicianship.

Other than the shyness and the folkie connection, he doesn't really remind me of Mike at all - Nick was very much in the singer/songwriter school and Mike is more....well....Mike is Mike!  But Nick's great.  He was buried close by where I live and I've been to his grave to pay my respects.  John Martyn wrote a song about him called Solid Air.
