totoweb.org will have an interview with Simon Philips and, since the webmaster is also a Mike Oldfield fan, he offered to do a  joint interview with tubular.net. We'd likely ask 5-6 questions each. Ideas, suggestions? It would be interesting to find questions where he can talk about Toto and Mike in the same answer.

The most obvious question, or more demand ;) is that he should call Mike immediatly for another album together as good as Crises!!
Also I'd be interested to know more about how the two worked together. Was were the exact roles of both, and how much of the songs they did together came from him.

Do you remember any unreleased tracks from the Discovery session? Thank you.

I'd like to know what Simon thinks of Mike's uses of percussion in his music these days. That question could lead on interestingly into what he thinks about programmed percussion verses live recorded percussion.

I'd also like to know what sort of working relationship they had? What Mike was like to work with? Whether or not Mike wrote music around Simon's drumming style? And what sort of conceptual ideas he brought to Mike's 80's stuff?

And yeah I'd love to persuade Simon to knock on Mike's door and command him to let him play on his next album. WE WANT LIVE DRUMS BACK!

ps Quite an interesting question might be, out of the MO tracks that he contributed to which is his particular favorite?

How did happen to him to work with Mike and Toto and what were the results for him as a musician/producer/enginner after those 2 different experiences?

Let's not forget his again very different work with the Orb (I know, he has worked with many more artists, but this is one of the few where he was actually a band member for a while).

But to echo a question already posted: my main interest would be if the drum bits on Crises and Discovery were created by Mike or by Simon, or jointly.

I would like to ask Simon:
What do you think of your drumming on Music from the balcony? :)

Simon Phillips, being on of the worlds best drummers, I would like to ask if he´s planning to work with Mike again ?

Also:
What does he think of Mike´s own drumming abilities, as he played Simmons drums himself on the "Crises" title track ?

Best regards
Fredrik

I'd like Simon Philips to explain how they composed the drum track together.

Did Mike have clear ideas about how the percussion should be or is it for 99% the work of Philips ? And how did he work with Mike : did he make different proposals for drums rolls etc. ?

Also, is Simon Phillips the drummer on 'Pictures in the Dark' ?

The drums on Pictures In The Dark, Shine and so on were programmed.

All very VERY interesting questions here!
I would really hope to see them answered. :)
