I like Tubular Bells 3. I'm mostly into fully electronic music, but this album really grabbed me. In fact it's one of the most beautiful albums ever, from the first to the last seconds.

Now I'm wondering if Mike has done other similar stuff? I'm not a big fan of the other albums by him I've heard, they get a bit too rocky for my taste.

Thanks for any recommendations.

It would be nice to know what the 'other albums' that you find too rocky are, before making any recommendations. But if you liked Tubular Bells III then you might also enjoy Tubular Bells II. In my opinion II is inferior to III, but most people here will probably disagree.

Well, TB1 for instance, is not to my taste at all after the first subtle minutes.

The first minutes in my opinion are the worst, try The songs of distant earth or tres lunas if electronic music is what you are more into :)

I'd recommend you try Crises. If the title track doesn't do it for you, you probably won't like the other stuff either. Crises is basically a complex and involved mix of rock and electronics.

The Songs of Distant Earth and Tres Lunas are very electronic, but by no means as upbeat as TBIII. If you can see yourself liking the sort of thing, I'd recommend TSODE.

True, how could I forget Crises?  :O

This will sound rediculous but I reccommend Amarok, not because you like electronic based tracks but because it is SUCH a good piece of music, you surely have to like parts of it. Good luck with whatever path you decide to take  :)

Yes, I like downbeat as much as the faster stuff. I'll check out those two.  :)

Crises, however, has Moonlight Shadow on it. Awful track, that one.  :p Is the rest like it?

No. It's a pretty varied album, having one complex instrumental (Crises), one simple instrumental (Taurus 3) and four songs that don't resemble each other very much. As a whole it should give you a good idea of what Mike's song output sounds like and what his earlier instrumental output sounds like.

Listened to a couple of tracks off Tr3s Lunas. It certainly does sound good.

I personally find this half-electronic style much better than his previous completely instrumental one. Hopefully he continues like this on his newest one.  :)

To clarify my above, by "instrumental" I meant music without vocals, not music played with traditional instruments.

Well it is certainly refreshing to see someone who is enjoying Mikes later works more than his early stuff. Amarok is my personal favourite but if you prefer electronic to rock then I would not recommend it, it is very FULL on, moreso than TB which you say you did not like.

Wouldn't bother with anything that has songs on it, although they are still half instrumental but why buy half an album if you have other choices.

Going by what you have said and other suggestions, I think SODE, TBII and perhaps Millenium Bell.

It would be easier if you gave a list of what you have heard and what you don't like.

I think you've given good recommendations already. The thing I don't like is just rockiness. Especially with guitars, and if that's what the track mainly consists off. Say, Outcast. While it's great in the context, it's what I'd rather avoid if it's somewhere else.
Gentle, plucky guitars I have nothing against, or the rocky kind, if they're mixed in with other stuff like in Far Above The Clouds. Also, synths make everything better.  ;)
I've heard a part of Amarok, and yup, it's not really what I'm after.
