Does anyone else here know them?

They are a quite known Hungarian instrumental rock band and their music is very similar to Mike's one. They play mainly space, folk & progressive rock. Their first album, Martian Chronicles (1984) is the most famous one, and got many positive reviews. It was inspired by Ray Bradbury's well-known novel. Their other albums are the diversified double LP/CD called 1990, Live In Los Angeles (1996) & Nostradamus - Book of Prophecies (1999). The members of Solaris have also solo albums, the most recommended ones are their flutist, Attila Kollár's two Musical Witchcraft albums (1998/2002), especially the first one. IMHO all the tracks on it are great and have very much in common with Mike's music.

Anyway, if I should name the most oldfieldish non-Mike Oldfield track, I would say Beyond..., the bonus studio track from Solaris' Live In Los Angeles album.

So if you don't know them, I recommend you to get to know. ;)

Some of their songs appeared on the brazilian new age complilation where Mike´s Return to The Origin did appear.

It´s the same thing I´d say for Mike Oldfield.  ;)

Thanks. :)

About new age: Well, I think new age is often confused with ambient. In my eye, new age is some kind of meditative music without drums, with few tunes played on flute, and ambient is for example TSODE. Solaris has obviously nothing to do with new age - as well as Mike. What is more, Solaris hasn't got any ambient songs either. :)

Anyway, there was an Attila Kollár concert yesterday and it was marvellous! On Thursday there will be another one, so it's worth coming to Hungary then. ;)

Their homepage got renewed recently, and there are two full tracks to download:

Martian Chronicles II-III. (Martian Chronicles, 1984)
The Lion's Empire (Nostradamus: Book of Prophecies, 1999)

They could be good start for people who don't yet know their music.
