Hi just had to share this piece of music my brother and I have done in a lifetimes dedication of listening to his work.  Its called Smile (la solo)  I am the toncils on this :-)  and co producer, my brother has done all the midis, guitars, other voice, etc, in reworking the classic "Smile" tune, in a Mike Oldfield style.

The piece is based on the Richard Attenborough film, with Charlie Chaplins biography, who's mother suffered with mental health, and thought there was a lot of parallels with Mikes mum and his struggle to come to terms with the situation.  Paul thought it would be a thoughtful dedication for Mike's powerful music, how deeply he effects us all through our personal struggles.

I hope people on the forum enjoy it and hope to hear your feedback very soon heres the link

http://www.the-sindy-clinic.co.uk/midiaudio.htm

just download "SMILE - La Solo" from the links there, by the way its 8mins worth, if there are problems just let me know and I will convert it into a MP3, if you want your ears to bleed from the other samples of mine you can download those too, he he he :-D grins!

Hello

I liked it. The two pieces work quite well together and you made good efforts to integrated them. Some good playing by your brother too

I posted a cover of the same section from HR here. I believe the chord progression to be correct, but the performance isn't as good as yours :)

Hiya - it is based on Hergest Ridge, unfortunately we cant open your OGG file, what do you play these files in?  Are they higher quality than mp3's.  Do you have any wavs or MP3 of your version?  We would be interested to hear it.

Sue and Paul

You can play Ogg Vorbis encoded audio using Winamp. Enough of the musicians here used the format that I've now been adopting it for the last six months or so. However, I can understand how it isn't practical if you just want to play the one file. Check my thread (that I linked to in the last post) for updated links

Hi there,

You have to be patient with comments sometimes. They do come, eventually.

Anyhow, I'm not familiar with the "Smile" piece, but I enjoyed the Hergest Ridge bit. That's some nice-sounding guitar work, and the singing is also good (though I'd like to hear more than just that one repeated line). There's always a problem with midi string parts insofar as dynamics and expression are concerned, but that can be forgiven here ;-)

I look forward to hearing more from you both.

Sue, the solution to your ogg conversion problem can be downloaded here:

oggdropXPD

It's a tiny program - puts an icon on your desktop. When you double click the icon a little window opens. You drag the ogg file into the window and it converts it to mp3, or plays it for you, as required.

Believe me - if I can use it, ANYone can use it. We had a long discussion about all this here:

Thanks Alan,

I was checking it out when Jammer sent the link, will be very handy when I come to design the website next week, I understand its a smaller compression than MP3, very handy for extra large Mike Oldfield style pieces  ;) he he

I wish I could upload a photo, but they tend to be toooo massive for an Avatar!

Hi Tubularbelle :-)

I suppose there are a severe shortage of chics on the site at the moment he he.  My brother has done another piece called "Event Horizon" on this thread somewhere, I will probably contribute to his next piece :-)

Solo (mp3 version)

I downloaded the 80 mb wav file and converted it into mp3, you'll find that its a much better download size than previous
just download it and add that file version to your website

And this track is really good, very clever

good work!
