A long-standing project of mine was to do something with the end of Part Two of Incantations, the Song of Hiawatha. As usual with these things, I didn't know where I was going to take it, and in the end stayed fairly close to the original, except that I thought it would be fun to illustrate how Incantations (like many of Mike's albums) is made of of relatively few musical ideas, which are then developed so exquisitely.
Incantations is perhaps Mike's most "structured" album, based as many will know around "the cycle of fifths" although the Song of Hiawatha is another structure (well, loosely on two fifths, if you like). So, I've taken a few parts from other bits of the album and dropped them in where they fit - some fit exactly, some are a little contrived.
Who's going to be the first to come up with a correct list of all the "extras" and their sources?!
