Stereolab - Tomorrow Is Already Here, in an interesting live rendition and fan video.

Another neat feature of that song is that Mary Hansen does more lead vocals than usual.

In this particular version of "All You Need Is Love", the bass does enter late.

Oh gosh, the choir hamering love-love-love ad nauseam is SO annoying... It even feels to me like it's made annoying on purpose. Grrrrr... it's not artistic, it's a joke, a caricature.

@ Captain Cavern: I seem to remember that Noel actually conceived that song as a guitar-and-vocal piece for himself, maybe with a bit of piano. Later, Liam convinced him to electrify it a bit. :) But the final result is still very acoustic.

@ Olivier: I don't think I can say that your thoughts on "All You Need is Love" are shared by lots and lots of people.

Ah, now that I think of it, Italy wasn't totally extraneous to the "late bass" thing, at least on one occasion:

Back then, symphonic rock was at its utmost height also here. Three quarters of this song are just piano, vocals and orchestra. An acoustic guitar enters at the second-to-last chorus, bass and drums enter only in the last chorus.

A similar thing happens with Banco del Mutuo Soccorso's 750.000 anni fa... l'amore?, which is mostly piano and vocals, and the band enters only at the very end.

I don't know about you, but one of the peaks of prog rock happens when a band decides to write a song about love between primates and comes up with a masterpiece like that.

Olivier - I agree with you 100%.  If I hear even a snippet of a Beatles song, I become homicidal.

We should start a palindromes thread. I once wrote a story with two characters, "Noel" and "Leon", who never met each other. Maybe if they'd both known Ava...  :D

Coincidentally, I was playing "Leaving the Complex" in the car today. By the way, I agree with you now that the Tub2 version of "Hands Across the Mountain" is better than the original.  :O

It all sounds VERY intriguing what goes on in this Hibernaculum forum.

Are you wanting to intrigue us?  :D

@ Sir M.: Indeed Banco are very prog, and Francesco Di Giacomo (vocalist/lyricist) has always written unusual lyrics. Anyway, starting very quiet and ending very loud (or at least very powerful) is a fixture of the Italian version of prog. Pooh thought they were prog (or at least their producer at the time did), but they never really were - they were always more into easy melodic pop than prog. Now (i.e. 2011) that they've lost their lifetime drummer, I may say that they're gone slightly back to their "pop prog" roots, but they've also lost a number of old fans, who were more-than-used to their simple melodic pop sounds.

This is definitely not prog, but still the bass (together with the "band", of course) enters a bit later than the beginning of the song.
