From what I've been able to hear, it's a nice album.  But just one thing.  Plenty of it is indeed familiar.  First Steps is unashamedly, almost embarrasslngly, Tr3s Lunas (previously TL bootleg stuff of course - take your pick from TLII, Music VR The Album, or Return To The Origin).  The album could easily be renamed Tr3s Lunas III !!

Yes but don't forget that Tres Lunas II was not an official release so it is not Mikes fault that we have heard it all before. This is the first time that he has released it on a music cd. Perhaps in hindsight, Tres Lunas should have been the double album and this one a single.

C'mon Aussie C'mon, me too.

G'day TubularBelle, and everybody else.  What I really want to say is that I think the music on L+S is fine.  It's just that I was rather amused to hear so much that sounded so familiar.  I guess that's the mark of a true MO follower who knows his stuff, "boots"  ;) !!  and all.

It is all the fault of the internet which has given us bootleg cds and free music downloads. It would be difficult to NOT hear anything before the release date. Hopefully this is the main reason that so much criticism of this album has surfaced, and when we have all had time to relax and listen to it with a Bourbon in one hand and toke in the other as our first experience should have been, I think the tide will change very abruptly. (That was a toke/joke! Please no lectures)

I guess I'm lucky in the way that I haven't heard any of Tres Lunas or TL II for that matter, so it will all sound new to my ears! na na na na naaaa!  :D  :p

Tres Lunas II also news to me.... but I've not been here long so that's no doubt partly why. And if it wasn't released, in a way, it doesn't exist. Because over the last 25 years (agh..my age, my age...) i've kept hearing how Mike should release stuff he's recorded but not released! Fans can't have it both ways!

Not 100% sure what you mean Marky, but I'm starting to think the internet is going to have a huge impact on our preconceptions of an album from now on and can do a hell of a lot of damage. We will have to be patient and wait a few weeks. If, after everyone has had a chance to listen to it several times in different moods and settings, we still get negativity, the internet is not to blame. But if there is a rather large turnaround which is what I expect to happen as it is starting to happen now, then we will know that all the early negativity was the blame of the internet and not Mike! The trend has also very noticeably gone from the Light cd to the Shade cd. A turnaround I tell you!!!!

For the benifit of Timeslip and Marky, Tres Lunas II was a mix of the game music by Brandon Blume (Musicaly Inspired) and if i am honest was excellent, i think that mike may have heard what can be done with some of that music and so included it on Light and Shade, i am having my first listen now of the new album, i like it, but i will listen a few more times to get the real feel! lol  ;)

P.S Tubularbelle, i recently got bought an amazing tubular bells 3 arcrylic painting on canvas, my girlfriend is the best!  :D

Excellent Bugular, Is it an original? Did your girlfriend do it for you or did she pay someone else to do it?

Now I am confused. So it is being suggested that Mike has based some of L&S around an album mixed by another person? I can see how that would be embarrassing for him.

Ok, in the beginning Mike made Music VR. There was a lot of music in this game. He made an album for it called Tr3s Lunas with only SOME of the music from Music VR. Then I came along and created Tr3s Lunas II which is a compilation of all the REST of the music he didn't put on the Tr3s Lunas album. And then a couple years go by and he makes Light And Shade and decides to put a couple of the themes he didn't put on his Tr3s Lunas album (but are in Music VR) into it and they also just happened to be on Tr3s Lunas II because my cd contains all the music that's NOT on Tr3s Lunas the album. Confused yet? :D

As far as I know, I don't think Mike has heard ANY fan tracks of his music other than the group Finale project.

Well said, Brandon.  I'm with you (not confused at all), because I followed the "release" of these compilations, including yours, which is a really nice effort.

That's handy! I'm learning! I have not accessed any of the non CD material, so references to it are obscure for me (as, I am sure, for many others).

Oh well, there's a way. As soon as you know the definitive release date of a new CD, turn down you internet connection and don't surf anymore until two days after the release date, having bought the record and heard it several times  ;-)

Easy, isn't it? :P
