While "Lil' Beethoven" was the best album to emerge between 2000 and 2005, "Hello Young Lovers" is definitely the best album of 2006 (it's only January but judging by the fact NOTHING managed to impress me more than "Lil' Beethoven" in the last few years and "Hello Young Lovers" is better... nuff said). Whaddayathink?

Yeah I agree !! I saw the Premier of Lil Beethoven at the
Royal Festival Hall .. and 3 times since... Also going to
Manchester to see the HYL Premier on Feb 15th.. Its not
easy listening but its extremely rewarding if you can see
where its coming from... Ive heard 5 Tks off HYL already
and although more radio friendly theyre all shall we say
interesting.. Anything called"I play the Organ at the Notre
Dam Cathedral" is obviously not your normal Fare !!
Anyway hardly any Guitars on Lil Beethoven its all Strings
and Layered Vocals... Worth Checking out if you like a Challenge !!

Yeah, songs on HYL are more radio friendly -- to the degree Sparks can be radio friendly among hip-hop and James Blunt, of course :) In a perfect world there would be five singles off HYL and all of them top 3 hits... At least HYL tracks are getting some airplay, unlike Lil' Beethoven -- which was simply ignored by the radio.

Today I couldn't sleep at night because "There is no such thing as aliens" was playing in my head, BTW. So be warned :)

Well, I'm not "dicking around" when I say HYL is a class album.

It took me forever to "get into" Lil' Beethoven - my only previous experience of Sparks was Kimono My House...

But when I eventually "got" it... Wow! It blew me away and I couldnt stop listening for weeks. Played it to a few mates though and they think I'm insane for liking it!

I'm finding Hello Young Lovers much much easier to enjoy and I think it's unbelievable - more accessible but equally as mindblowing as Lil' Beethoven. Some fantastic lyrics especially in "Waterproof" and "(Baby Baby) Can I Invade Your Country", both works of genius!

Great stuff altogether and I'd highly recommend recent Sparks to anyone with an open mind musically...

Ehhh, Sparks debut at #66 this week, beaten by Keane (WHO doesn't yet have Keane?!;), Michael Jackson's Number Ones, Bee Gees' Love Songs, ELO's Very Best Of... I'm not saying these are bad, but Hello Young Lovers is brand new and these were out for about 50 years already :s

I heard it was 400 copies off a Top 40 position... But the
Concerts are going off this Week plus a Live TV performance
on Fridays GMTV and a HMV Oxford St Performance on the same Day... and a Live set on the 6music Steve Lamacq show
on tuesday so that might kick start it ...Youre right the charts
are plauged by reissues and frankly boring stuff .. I think a
separate chart should be compiled for these type of albums personaly..Ah well im off to see it Live at Manchester on
Wednesday so thats gonna be really cool ..

I've always liked what I've heard of Sparks ie those that have done well in the charts  ~ this town ain't big enugh for the both of us, no. 1 song in heaven etc, but then a friend lent me Hello Young Lovers and I was amazed. I was absolutely amazed. It's like Bohemian Rhapsody in a way, but it goes on and on, and there's layers of it which will bear out further listening. So complex and very compelling. It's odd, but I like odd, and I like this, a lot!

Nice to find something new, a new style. ;)
