Here's a small (pseudo-) orchestral piece I did. It wasn't actually planned that way, but after working on it for a while, it became apparent to me that it is in fact my reaction to MotS - hence the title.

Spheresome

Dude, that's good stuff!  I like it.  Sounds like it could be from a movie, and yes-that's a compliment.

I think it's great! The only suggestion I could make is add some reverb to certain parts. If that isn't an option, put a small amount of medium hall reverb on the entire song. Good job!

Thanks a lot everyone for the nice comments, glad you liked it! Scatterplot, I think I know what you mean about the reverb, I guess some of the parts could do with some more. It's always a bit tricky balancing the reverb when you're working with samples from different sources; some of them are quite reverby by themselves, whereas others are quite dry. I'll try adjusting the reverb some more.

I liked it. My initial thought was that the cellos (or double basses) were too loud but as the track progressed they seemed to fit in a bit more. Perhaps they could possible start off quieter and grow in volume as the track develops and more instruments come in.

The reverb comment from Scatterplot makes sense because alot of the background noises sound quite echoey but the front sounds are quite dry.

It gets a bit muddy when there's alot going on so it may be an idea to use EQ on some of the instruments to reduce the conflicts.

Overall it's got a great sound, is well arranged, and kept me interested all the way through.

Thanks for sharing,
Terry.

I like this music Holger.  So when's your musical theatre piece coming out? ;-)

That might be worth a try. I actually like them being loud (they're cellos and double basses in unison, btw), but maybe they're just a bit over the top.

I agree that the middle section sounds muddy. I guess some of the parts would have to have certain frequencies in the lower range cut, I'm also wondering if the panning could be just a little bit wider to give each instrument more space.
