It is known that Mike is a bit of a Trekkie (pictures from teh late 80's/early 90's of star Trek Box set videos in his house etc).

So, being a mildly infected Trekkie, I was wondering if there are any other fans were, and if so who your captain is?

I'm leaning towards Archer (as a pioneer) or Janeway (in the hardest circumstances (all alone in the delta quadrant).

And can you imagine Oldfield guitar as a soundtrack to their adventures?

I bet the doors on his Caribbean boat go "swoosh"

I wonder, why he did not name his boat Enterprise. :)

It is Jean Luc for me. It was my first Star Trek captain i saw and still the best. Patrick Steward did a really good job in that role. . Also like me he likes Red Dwarf (even though he thought about calling his lawyer when he was watching it for the first time).

Another vote for the brilliant Captain Picard (TV show character that is, not so much the films). He's my absolute favourite.

Of course Kirk is great as well, as is Sisko.
I can't stand Janeway and I never watched Enterprise so I don't have an opinion on Archer.

Jean Luc Picard for me. I think Lament for Atlantis would do a good job as a Star Trek theme tune. The Voyager theme tune is quite good, as is The Next Generation one.

Picard. I never found anything to back up my theory that JLP's character was named after Jean Luc Ponty. Was Roddenberry a fan of Ponty's? It's just too weird that their names are so close and Ponty was deep into a succesful fusion fanbase(me included) prior to STNG. Also Picard was supposed to be French, as Ponty is.

For a long time I've had this silly impression that I'd never be able to like Star Trek -- that is, any of its incarnations. After watching a good chunk of episodes from The Next Generation, my impression was confirmed.

Okay, so maybe I'm way too biased, and all my hatred for that show isn't really justified. But I'm sure that, even if I tried very hard, I'd never be able to fully like that show for one, sole reason.

Fucking Wesley.

Is that Wesley Crusher? My experience of Star Trek is that it was always something I watched as it was what my dad watched and he had control of the remote, haha. I always found it to be a decent show though. It's the kind of show that teaches you stuff as well as being entertaining. Like if I was ever stranded on a desert I would remember to breathe through my nose to prevent dehydration.  Captain Picard rules.

As did I. In all the ST shows/movies the biggest draw to me was the ship. The ship was the star and everyone else a supporting actor(except STNG because the ship was ugly and the actors and other ships/opponents made it exciting). The NCC-1701-A was the best leading role. So aesthetically pleasing in shape and colors. That's what I paid to see at the theater.

That's a good point, Scatterplot. I remember Scotty in Star Trek IV (the humpback whales one) tell Sulu---who was hoping for the Excelsior--refer to it as "why would you want that bucket of bolts???"  -- and was very relieved to see that they'd be getting a new Enterprise--1701-A. Loved that movie--Scotty had the coolest lines. "Hello Computer!"

I didnt find the ship the star..But James T Kirk ..got my vote hands down....

Picard has his moments but he represents the 90's PC feelgood sh*t that dominated the era..and is still felt to this day.

Sisko and Janeway were also quite good captains but like the rest of the modern Trek they could never defeat bad writing..some of the scripts are so bad...Voyagers first season alone regurgitates the same story lines over and over....also remember wincing at yet another holodeck episode....or Wesley or Mrs Troi.....how about Worfs son eeeeeeek.....

When modern trek was good it really was......Yesterdays Enterprise...Parallels...the Inner Light...brilliant stuff......

Archer got good in the last season...maybe Enterprise left it run too late....

Wanna see a really great Trek fan film...google Star Trek Of Gods and Men...well worth a watch....it has Uhura and Checkov and a few others from various shows.....

Now Lexx and Babylon 5 they were far superior imo

Khhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnn

I will always say STNG was my fav. tho......there were so many fine episodes out of 178. Whereas ST-TOS only had only about 10 out of 78. The spinoffs from STNG were crap, but ST-Enterprise did have a 3 episode "mini-series" featuring Brent Spiner in season 4. Very cool.
Sorry Milamber but the "A" ship buried Shatner as an actor. So sweet on the eyes.....not him, the ship.
