This sad and also weird because I just came from library where I read some Pink Floyd book and there was a picture of Syd walking in Cambridge taken in 1990.
I stared at the picture for a long time and then I came home and read your post saying he is dead! R.I.P.

Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze.

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision, rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr,
and shine!

shine on syd....

downlaod and listen to Wish you were here

Didn't think it would be at all possible to feel even more emotion, hearing "Wish You Were Here" and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" ... but now I do. RIP lovely Syd :/

Syd Barrett,  what genius :D .

Shine On You Crazy Diamond,The Madcap Laughs,
How I wish, How I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls, swimming in a fish bowl, year after year
Running over the same old ground.  What have we found? The same old fears
Wish you were here.

Been playing much Syd Floyd and solo since hearing the sad news.
Playing WYWH makesme feel rather emotional.

RIP Syd

  :/ .

Though I'm not a Pink Floyd fan but still, I respect that guy quite a lot for founding the band! RIP Syd!

Apart from Mike, Syd Barrett is my other obsession. The poor guy wasn't made from this world. It's easy to blame the drugs and all that, but diabetes can be a very dangerous disease in itself.

I think he was wise to step of the carousel of fame so early on. He'd done his work. Consider that Syd Barrett never had a retirement pension. He lived all his life from royalities from the 3 1/2 albums he made in 1967-70! He did not draw the money up his nose or made shitty comeback attempts for cash.

I noticed the November issue of Guitar Player at one of the school libraries that I visited this week. Besides containing the top ten Alex Lifeson riff's in the "Lick Library," there was a feature article on Syd B. I didn't have time to read it, but it seems to be online, located here.
