I have worked out a synth voice sound which is quite similar to one which Mike uses (TSODE onwards). It can be created on any Roland synth (I did it on an XP-10, but I've tried it on some of the SC modules and it works too). Set up is as follows:

Start with GM 55 (SynVoice) and make these edits:

Attack +5
Decay +50
Release +20
Filter Cutoff +50
Filter Resonance -50
Chorus Send 60
Reverb Send 100

I like to use a Hall2 reverb and Chorus3, but feel free to play with any setting
Feel free to mess about with these.

Mat...IT'S PERFECT!!! cool cool

A little side note, though: on my Roland synth, the starting sound (SynVox) is GM 77, not 55... wink

Thanks Ugo! I've already used the sound to great effect as an ethereal heavenly sound in a production of "The Mystery" plays.

RE SynVox on Roland Synths: I was basing the patch on the General MIDI settings so that, in theory, people who didn't have a Roland synth could try it. I found it with the aid of a PhatBoy, so it should work to some extent on non-Roland synths as well maybe even soundcard synths.

Hey that's great! It sounds familiar, but I can't think of a passage that uses it off the top of my head.

I have some editting controls on my Evolution MK-249C MIDI keyboard, but they are a bit fiddly to use. I might consider getting a PhatBoy if most of the patches can be editted like this

Have you found any other good sounds used by Mike on your Roland synths? Do tell!
