So I guess you have had it with fans posting their TB covers, aren’t you? Well, I don’t care, really. :)

I just wanted to share this with all the musicians that love Oldfield music and of course all the other people that are interested.

I would also very much like to hear your comments and suggestions.

I recorded this with a copy of Stratocaster guitar using various "zoom 4040" effects and some cheap base guitar, all recorded and edited with CoolEdit 2.0. No other instruments or plugins were used. All together it sounds a bit raw but that is the way I made it and I actually wanted that sound cause I didn't wanna copy the original, I just wanted to make my version of it .. so here it goes .. knock yourselves out :p

oh come on people at least leave some feedback. say it sucks or say i like it or say you missed something .. or whatever, just say something ... 20 views and not a comment left.... :/

As morti said on some other topic - "Artists thrive on feedback, y'know." .. thats true.

Actually it's not bad except for the "raw" production sound but if that's what you were shooting for, okay.

I find the sound a bit too harsh (but I reckon it's your choice), especially that chord which appears regularly : it's too loud.

Also the mix is a bit rough, you should try to pan some instruments to add clarity

Well, as I said, I didn't wanna make it sound soft at all, especially that chord that repeats-I wanted it to be sensibly louder - that way it brings tension to the piece. But you are right when you say that the mix is roug - I would want it to be a bit more clear - the transitions (when adding on instruments as the theme goes) are too obvious.

I gotta admit that I am totally new in music production and I could use some hints that could help me to learn how to produce and mix music - if anyone could guide me where to find it I would be very grateful. I am not looking for anything fully proffesional... just a few tips and tricks about recording and mixing using PC software such as CoolEdit.

I thought you'd done very well considering the method you're using - it's not the easiest of pieces anyway.  I must have a go myself.

thank you captain. well the thing is i really have a great urge for music production and i would really want to make something more, invest in it a little bit. i have few pieces of my own in my head and i would like to make something out of them, compose a little piece of my own. thats why i would like to know a bit more about music production, particularly home production.

I enjoy Oldfield music so much because it is the only music that i can put my soul in while playing, at least for now. Tubular bells were not the first Oldfield album that i heard, but when I did hear it for the first time all the way through i began to understand it differently and just played it instrument by instrument, piece by piece for months now, and it became my favorite. I am trying to find some musicians in my town that would like to try to play TB with me and maybe even perform it, but that is very difficult because rare musicians are interested. But I keep on trying and hope I will find them.
