The 24 Medal Sequence

Scattered throughout the Maestro worlds are 24 pale blue medals. Collecting all 24 gives you access to Mike's secret place.

The sequence in which the medals should be collected is given in one of the Maestro 'books', found on a space platform outside the main spaceship (see here). An image of the book itself can be seen here. (It seems that at some early stage in the development of the game, rings rather than medals were the objects to be collected. The information in this book, presumably, was an oversight - for 'ring', read 'medal'.)

Here's a simple transcription of the sequence in the book, giving just the bare outline of the medal collecting sequence, in order. Full details, with tips on how to find and collect each medal, will be given in the rest of the posts in this thread.

(I'm still working on this entry)

1. Desert White. The medal is a reward for completing the 'Jets' game.
2. Inviz. You have to catch the medal, which is travelling in a circle leaving a blue trail.
3. Crater. The medal is a reward for saving the crater by destroying bombarding meteorites.
4. Cave. The medal is in the 'bird' cavern, on a platform by a small pool.
5. Castle. The medal is on the back of the horse that gallops around the castle.
6. Statue. The medal is beneath the large statue on the hilltop in Balloon World.
7. Labyrinth. The medal is in the heart of the labyrinth in Terrain.
8. Terrain. The medal appears on the back of the big flying dinosaur in Terrain after the acrobats are freed.
9. Spacelift. The medal is on the spacelift in Blind Man's World (but only when 8 medals have been collected)
10. Gears. The medal is in the middle of the clock face in Gears World.
11. Crab.
12. Atomium.
13. Maze. The medal is a reward for escaping from a maze of opening and closing doors.
14. Spire. The medal is high up in the spire above the model castle.
15. Stairs.
16. Tcity1. Medals 16-19 are on the roof above the main spiral stairs in the space ship.
17. Tcity2.
18. Tcity3.
19. Tcity4.
20. Scorpion.
21. Go To 3.
22. Taj Mahal.
23. Dome 1.
24. Dome 2.

Although most of the medals don't have to be collected in this precise order, there are a few that must be collected at the correct point in the sequence (such as medal number 9, which must be the 9th medal collected).

Medal 1: Desert White ("The Jets Game")

This is one of the most difficult medals to collect, so it's a good idea to do it early in the game. In any case, it must be one of the first four you collect, because you can only get through the main portal to the Jets World if you're carrying fewer than five medals (though there is another route - see below). It's enormously easier to complete the Jets game if you're flying with an avatar - a cometar being the easiest of all. Without an avatar, you'll find your movements in Jets World very difficult to control. Once you have your cometar, fly to the portal that leads to the Jets Game (see map). There are two portals close to each other, and the one you want is the portal with the Tubular Bells above it. Fly very close, or shoot at it (space bar), and you'll be transported to Jets World. Four small jet images will appear at top right of your screen.

As you fly around you'll see four coloured jets moving quickly. Each one of these is a target. If you get close enough to touch one, or to shoot at it, it will change into a seagull, and one of the little jet images at top of screen will disappear. But be careful. There are other cream-coloured jets streaming from one particular location on the ground that are not legitimate targets. Hitting these will achieve nothing. The targets you need to seek out, in any order, are the blue jet, the red jet, the yellow jet, and the brownish, buff-coloured jet. When you've transformed all four into birds, the game will change.

You'll now find yourself near a set of Tubular Bells. At top right of your screen is the small image of a red jet. If you wait, you'll see a red jet flying around the landscape at very high speed. To win the game, you have to touch or shoot this fast red jet. The most successful method of doing this tricky task is not to try to follow it, but to wait and watch. You'll see that every 20-30 seconds or so, it passes very close to where you are. Watch it approach a few times to get the feel of its trajectory, and position yourself (always moving slowly so as not to lose control of where you are) so that you're in its path, a little below the set of Tubular Bells. Sooner or later it will hit you, and you'll win the game.

You now find yourself in a featureless pale blue space. Don't move, but just look around, slowly. Nearby you'll see the Red Jet guarding a set of space platforms. On the nearest space platform you'll see the medal. Fly to it, touch (or fire at) the medal, and it's yours.

To get home, look around for a double hexagonal multicoloured window flying slowly around the space. Touching or shooting at the multicoloured window will take you back to the main spiral stairs in the Maestro space ship.

[Extra information from A R Schultz]:
Alternatively, you can get home through the multicoloured window on the space platform where you found the medal, or through the red jet. And if for some reason you decide during the Jets Game to give up, look around the landscape for a metallic bent tube. Shooting into that will end the game and take you back to the main stairs.

For an alternative way into the Jets Game (if you have too many medals), you can use one of the seven large multi-coloured circular windows on the outskirts of the castle area (use the second from the left, looking from the castle).

[Extra information from Trinidad]
Once you've started on the Jets Game, it's important to finish it and get the medal. If you leave Desert White in order to try again later, you'll find it impossible to complete on the second try. The only solution to that is to reset the whole game and start again from the beginning (by pressing key F1).

Medal 2: Inviz

Collecting this medal requires precise targeting, but you only need to do it once.

The way to get there (also to be seen in the map) is as follows:
Move forward through the main hallway, through the tunnels room (where the model castle is) until you reach the next room (black with many shiny colours). Follow the hallway to the left, with the little car symbol at the top, until you come to a room decorated with lots of dice. (You can also get there if you turn left at the hallway crossing between the tunnels and colours rooms, then left again at he next crossing.) In this dice room is the pyramid portal to Inviz. Hit the portal and you will get to Inviz World.

Inviz World is mostly white (thus initially frequently mistaken to be Desert White), with trails of coloured sparks, a moving dice (which you can ride), a double hexagon gate, and a circular gate. You will be throwing cars when you hit the spacebar. (Note: you will probably prefer to turn your speakers' volume down now! ) The medal leaves a trail of blue sparks. If you're flying an avatar, it should not be too hard to pick up. To get it without an avatar, first get in its way and let it catch you. The tricky part is then to run into the medal to actually collect it. If you don't come from straight ahead, you will miss it - and even worse: you are tied to it, and it's moving in circles...

Once you've managed to collect the medal, you can leave either through the double-hexagon gate, which will take you back to the stairs hall; or through the circular gate, which will take you to Balloon's World, where you can easily collect medal #6:

Medal 6: Statue ("Balloons World")

An easy medal to collect - once you get there. One way is through the circular gate in Inviz (see Medal 2), another through one of the pictures on the wall of the ruined castle.

You start high in the air, near a set of tubular bells with lots of red balloons floating around. Below is a rocky mountainscape (no trees or grass), with a silver statue on top of the main mountain. Here's a closer view of the statue. You will find the the medal at the foot of the statue, inside the socket. (Note: Most avatars will probably be too large to allow you to pick it up.)

Speaking of avatars: When coming from red light, you will find an old sailing ship on top of the mountain next to the statue.
This is a really huge avatar, and not for beginners to control...(and fires anchors).

At the foot of the mountain, you will find another metal tube sticking out of the ground, which will take you back to the main hall with the spiral stairs.

Medal 14: Spire

This is one of the easiest of all the medals to find and collect.

Go forward from the main spiral staircase through the central tunnel until you reach the large circular hall. In the centre of the hall is a pyramid with a small model castle on top. Look up from the model castle and you'll see a spire rising above you, with some strange twisty things moving slowly at the entrance to the spire.

Go up the inside of the spire and you'll see the medal.

Medals 16, 17, 18, and 19: Tcity1,2,3,&4

These four medals are the easiest of all to collect.

From the bottom of the spiral stairs in the main hall, look upwards to see the vertical shaft rising above you. Go up the shaft, following the stairs, until you reach the avatar platform at the top. If you look around at this level, you'll see a large flat circular 'roof'. Go out to the edge of the roof and follow its circumference until you see a medal. From here, looking towards the centre, you can see the vertical shaft that you just came up.

There are four medals on this roof, arranged symetrically around the circular edge. All you need to do is scoot along the edge and pick them up.

13 - MAZE MEDAL

NOTE - do not attempt to complete this with an avatar - it WILL get stuck.

This medal is one of those you get via the tubes in the second hall. Look for the tube to the right (portside?) with a green base and images of windows.

Once in the sphere, on the pedestal is a small representation of the maze. It's an arch shaped building. Approach and fire to enter the maze.

You are now in a building consisting of many roomsstart here , but there are only 2 designs and it's very easy to get dis-orientated. This building has many levels, the base of each side is 9 * 9 rooms.

Your task is to get to the bottom level and find an exit, then find the medal.

SPOILER FOLLOWS

Go straight ahead through the Keyboard/Hinge doors until you reach the edge and find a window to the outside.

Turn right, go through the Grill/Plank doors until you reach the corner.

Go down Through the hatch until you reach the ground level.

Turn right, through the doors and you should reach the exit.

the medal is on top of another large swirly DNA-type thingy

Medal 3: Crater
Entry is the pyramid in the sphere opposite to the jets' sphere. As you can see from the two green medal icons on the pyramid, you need two medals to enter.
You find yourself inside a flat crater, with the ground looking like ice, carrying several small towers, and a single hexagon gate on the rim, as well as the tube sticking out of the ground as potential exits. One of the towers (close to the rim of the crater) is initially protected by a barrier. In the distance, you see a few rocky islands, resembling the distant islands from TresLunas.
When you touch the hexagon gate, you will start firing missiles instead of the usual square computer chips.
The task is to destroy the six red asteroids flying around the crater, indicated by the six red symbols in the upper right corner. You can either just stand in their way, or hit them with missiles to destroy them.
Once you destroyed all of them, a big medal appears, flying around the crater, which you have to hit to complete the task and get your medal as reward.
With all asteroids destroyed, the barrier around the 'special tower' is gone, and reveals an opening in the back, through which you can enter a small library inside. You will find there another hintbook, showing a map of the Voyager.
While you can return to the stairs hall any time through the tube, the hexagon gate only opens once you completed the task.
Note:
1. There is another special tower (close to the center) which, unlike the others, blocks your way when you try to fly through, but doesn't seem to have any other special property.
2. With all asteroids destroyed, the missiles start acting strangely - sometimes they get stuck in the ground, suspended in the air, or you may even find yourself inside a missile. These stuck missiles vanish after a few seconds.

Medal 4 - Bird Cage Cave

There are many ways to get to the bird Cage Cave, and many things to find and do there. These will be discussed in their own thread. But the medal is easiest to get by going to the Shield at the end of the corridor with the tubular symbol.

Fire at the shield and pass through it. You will now be in the Cave, up near the roof. Look for the pillar on it's own, with a pool behind it. The medal is on a platform.

Exit through the tube back to the main spaceship, or through the big stained glass window to the castle.

Medal 11: Crab

Go forward from the main spiral stairs along the central corridor to the Hall of Tunnels (see map) and enter tunnel G. At the end of the tunnel a giant crab will be waiting for you. The medal is just above the crab's head, and it's a simple matter just to help yourself to it - in fact this is one of the easiest medals to collect.

Medal 20: Scorpion

Go forward from the main spiral stairs along the central corridor to the Hall of Tunnels (see map) and enter either tunnel E or H. At the end of the tunnel a giant scorpion will be on patrol, though you might have to search around for a bit before you find it, and you'll probably hear it before you see it.

The medal is at the end of the scorpion's tail. If you're flying an avatar, it's very easy to fly into the medal and pick it up. Without an avatar it's much more difficult (see below). Either of the two tunnels can be used to get back to the Hall of Tunnels.

[Additional information provided by The Thin Man]:

It is possible to obtain the medal from the scorpion without having an avatar, but it takes a little practice.  However, once the knack has been learned it works 9 times out of 10.

Once you have found the scorpion and locked on to it, position yourself so that the scorpion is moving directly towards you.  Do this in the open parts of the chamber and not near the corners where the scorpion changes directions.  Now that you are in front of the scorpion, position yourself slightly above it, not too high and not too low.  A press of the mouse and, with luck, you will pass right through the medal and collect the medal.

There's a bit of trial and error to get the positioning right, but once you have learned where the sweet spot is you can do it more often than not.  Give it a go !

(The same technique works for collecting the medal on the back of the horse that gallops around the outside of the castle.  In that case, it is possible to get much closer to the medal before you release yourself and let the medal pass through you.  The horse medal would be good practice for the scorpion medal.)

Medal 12 - ATOMIUM

Enter via tunnel J, the stars and galaxies are a hint to what to expect.

You will need at least 4 medals to enter here.

As usual, shoot or approach the image on the pyramid. The revolving image there being yet another clue as to the where the medal is hiding.

You will find yourself in space, some hoops at the top of your screen and some hoops floating in space before you. Not too hard to work out what to do next  ;)

As you fly through the hoops, and see the top of screen hoops diminish, about half way you will see an asteroid field, the Atomium and an "8 shaped" window. But don't stop, keep going. At the end of the hoops is yet another window to take you back to the main hall. Turn around and head for the atomium.

Near the center of the cube Atomium you will find another Avatar - the Spaceship. This is bloody hard to fly, 8 axis and small and fast. An expert Avatar, my advice is don't bother.

You will also see an entrance in the center of Atomium, the usual stained glass window look. Get inside to hunt for the medal.

The puzzle here is similar to the room maze, to confuse you with very similar rooms. Look for the bouncing balls, head towards them, then stop and look for the next tube with more bouncing balls.

This should lead you to the medal, and a bookshelf. Before heading through yet another stained glass window back to blue zone, look around.

The book clue is an 8 and some medals. Useful if you get to a certain walking stick man?

Medal 21: GotTo3

Having collected medal 20 from the scorpion, proceed back to the main hall of the space ship and head for the twentieth step of the spiral staircase.  Here you will see a “20” symbol containing a stained glass window within the zero.  Little figure 20s will surround the big figure.  Fly or shoot at the stained glass window and the hall will be transformed to the blue lighting condition.  Then fly down to the fourth step and you will see the medal.  Fly through it to collect it.

(Note: this medal can be collected whenever the hall is illuminated by blue light.  This can be achieved by first making sure the hall is bathed in dim/red light by firing at the light switch above the passageway to the left of the main corridor, then firing at the right hand light switch opposite.  The right hand switch might take several firings to change the light to blue.)

Medal 22: Taj

You now have 21 medals and can find the 22nd in the Taj Mahal.

From the main hall take the second exit after the main corridor on the port side, turn left, and take the second entry to the right into the room having the upside-down and reversed greek shield and two pedestals.   You will see that the nearer pedestal has a magic lamp issuing small 21 symbols.  Shoot at the lamp and you will materialise at the start of the tunnel system that leads to the cave holding the caged birds.

However, you do not have to follow the tunnels to the end as you only need to go as far as the large mirror ball intersection that arrives after three of the little tubular bell symbols (which you don’t have to collect).  When you are inside the mirror ball, look downwards and you will see another magic lamp issuing small 21 symbols from the top.  Shoot at the stained glass at the top of the lamp.  (Alternatively, enter the lamp through its spout and shoot at the stained glass window that you will find inside.)

You then materialise inside the Taj Mahal in a room containing several pictures of the various worlds on the walls.  (This room contained guitars around the side and a gravitar in a corner when you were on the gravitar quest, but not now.)  The medal you seek is in the centre of the room.  Pass through it to collect.

To leave, either aim at the picture showing the Blind Man to materialise directly back in the main hall of the spaceship, or (more lengthily) go outside, move up a level and find a stained glass window located inside one of the four smaller domes that surround the larger central dome.  Pass through the window to return to the main hall.

Medals 23 and 24: Dome1 and Dome2

Medals 23 and 24 can be collected in one trip.  Proceed all the way to the front of the spaceship, passing the pedestals holding the castle and bowler hat.  If you face the big triangular end wall, you will see a small lectern on the ground at the right hand side.  There is a stained glass window on the lectern issuing small 22 symbols.

Shoot at the stained glass window and you will materialise in Blind Man’s World, but without the Blind Man or the figure-of-eight portal being present.  However, you will see two small red-topped domes each having a medal above their roof.  Fly through the medals to collect them.

Return to the main hall of the spaceship by flying through the bent tube or climbing aboard the spacelift.  The latter route will take you to the outside of the spaceship at the list of medals, and from there you can re-enter the ship by flying to the highest point.

You have now collected all 24 medals and have achieved your quest, so where are all the fireworks and suitably climactic music?  All that has happened is that you find yourself back in the main hall of the spaceship and are listening to the gentle throb of its engines. Is that it?

However, you are now able to enter Mike’s special world.

Mike's World

The secret to entering Mike’s World was passed to Dreamweaver by Mike during one of the early on-line games.  Without explicit instructions I suspect we would still be looking for it!

The entrance to Mike’s World is the triangular wall at the very front of the spaceship.  Proceed from the main hall, past the castle, past the bowler hat, all the way along the corridor to the lectern that you activated when you had 22 medals.  Simply fire at the big triangular end wall and you will enter Mike’s World.

You will notice straight away that this is none other than the Forest World in Tres Lunas, with several minor differences.  The dice game is missing, but you will be able to find a crystalline entity containing a picture of Mike located just in front of the celtic cross.  The reward for your quest is to relax among the trees and listen to the birds.

You can use the crystalline entity as an avatar and bring it back to the space ship by either leaving through the portal, or passing through the triangular stained glass pattern in the wall through which you entered.  In either case you will lose all your medals.

Medal 7: Labyrinth

From the spiral staircase take the second exit on the starboard side after the main corridor, turn right, and then take the second turning on the left marked by the DNA fragment above the entry.   Find the pedestal and shoot at the DNA on top.

You will materialise in Terrain, also known as Dinosaur World.  The medal can be found inside the labyrinth, but first you need to find the labyrinth.  Move off towards your right and after a short while a low, rectangular structure will appear on the horizon.  As you approach you will see that it turns into a giant spiral hedge maze.

The entrance to the labyrinth should be facing you; if not, then circumnavigate the labyrinth until you find it.  Enter the labyrinth and turn left.  Continue until you come to a choice of left or right.  Choose left again and proceed around the labyrinth.  Look out for an entrance towards the right (towards the centre), take it, and turn immediately left.  Continue until the end where you will see a fountain and basin, and a medal hovering above the pool.  Take the medal.

Alternatively, if you have an avatar, you will be able to fly over the hedges and not be pulled down into the labyrinth.  Simply fly over it until you see the fountain and medal.

The next medal is also in Terrain so there is no need to exit this world.

Medal 8: Terrain

To earn the medal you first need to release three acrobats.  The locations of the acrobat releasing points are marked with crosses on the map which can be found at the end of the short blind corridor at the front of the spaceship on the starboard side. You can see a copy of this map here.

After finding medal 7, return to the entrance to the Labyrinth and face towards the right.  Fly off and after a short while you will see a snowy-capped range of mountains.  When you reach the mountains, you can either fly rightwards around the edge of the massif, or over the tops of the peaks.  In either case, you are looking for two arches and a pedestal which are located at the end of the central valley that runs through this range.  Two isolated trees also point at the arches.

Note: if you fly around the edge you will bump into a small zone containing a wood which you cannot enter from Terrain.  However it is possible to enter via another route from the spaceship.  Fly over or around the wood.

Fire at the pedestal and a sequence will begin where you are taken with a group of blue and yellow acrobats, who fly through the landscape, eventually ending at a row of seven portals between a pair of arches.  Part of Ambient Guitars plays during your flight.  Enjoy!

You now need to find the second set of arches and pedestal to release the second acrobat.  When you arrive at the seven portals, turn around to face the direction you flew in.  Then fly forwards a short distance to the massif that materialises in front of you.  The two arches and a pedestal are a short distance to your left at the edge of the massif, and are again marked by two isolated trees.  Some flying red darts help you find this location.  Shoot the pedestal and release the blue acrobat.  Enjoy the flight of the shapeshifting blue acrobat, with more Ambient Guitars playing during your flight to the seven portals.

One more acrobat releasing point to go.  This time, when you arrive at the portals, turn around and face to your right.  Fly off again until you see another block of mountains, this time a three-tiered, reddish-brown set of rocks.  The arches and portal cannot be seen as you approach but look out for the two pointing trees at the edge of the mountains.  Line these up and fly over the rocks until you see a hollow in the mountains containing the arches.  Release the yellow acrobat and let it entertain you as you fly back to the portals.

You will hear two tingling sounds that signify something important has happened.  The clue in the book shows you what to do.  Fly above the clouds (not too far above the clouds! ) until you see a computerised pterodactyl flying around. The medal you seek is on its back.  Lock on to the pterodactyl and line yourself up so that it is flying towards you.  Release yourself and aim to fly over its back to collect the medal.  If successful, you will re-materialise inside the main hall of the spaceship.

The only other way to leave Terrain is by the bent tube near to where you entered the world.

Medal 5: Castle

There are several ways to enter the castle zone: but if you are on the medals quest then perhaps the easiest way is to fly through the centre of the reversed and upside-down Greek shield in the room that also contains a magic lamp and snakes on the floor.

On entering the castle zone you will find yourself next to a row of seven portals.  Each portal can transport you to one of the other worlds, but this will not be described here.

Move towards the castle.  You will hear the sound of a horse galloping, and soon you will see it circling the castle.  As you move closer you will see the medal on the horse’s back.  Chase the horse and lock on to it.  Then move around so that the horse is running directly towards you.  Position yourself so that you can see the medal over the horse’s head, then click the mouse and you will move closer in to the horse.  Again, position yourself so that you are facing the horse’s rump with the medal right in front of you.  One more mouse click and the medal will pass through you and be collected.

There are many ways to leave the castle world: either through one of the seven portals, through the bent tube at the back of the castle, or through one of the paintings that are hanging near the centre of the castle.  As the next medal on your quest is the “statue” medal then the best way is to go to the centre of the castle and fly through the picture of the statue behind the table.
