I'd say a bit of both. Even looking at all his albums laid out together (as on his discography page), the image of the bell seems to crop up rather a lot amongst the covers on view, so I think I'd say that if he hasn't overdone it, he's certainly pushed it to its limits. It confuses people - I know people who don't know that Tubular Bells II and its companions aren't the same as Tubular Bells, and people who want to buy Tubular Bells, see Tubular Bells, Tubular Bells II, Tubular Bells III, The Millennium Bell and Tubular Bells 2003 and don't have a clue which one they should buy...not that it bothers Mike!
It does seem like the Tubular Bells albums are often promoted in favour of Mike's other works, though. It's understandable, they're an easy sell because people are familiar with Tubular Bells (even if they think they're buying the album they heard in 1973 when they take that copy of Tubular Bells III to the checkout...), but it maybe doesn't do Mike any favours as far as promoting him as a well rounded artist goes. He could probably work on that himself, if he chose to, by doing the right kind of self promotion in the right places...but he probably doesn't want to, otherwise he'd have done it already.
