Your house/apartment/barn has caught on fire and you can only grab three CDs from your MO collection before fleeing the inferno. I know that favorites can vary from time to time, but just go by your preferences at this moment.

My choices:

1) Ommadawn
2) Tubular Bells II
3) The Songs of Distant Earth

(PS: If you try to cheat by adding a fourth or fifth album, you'll be overcome by smoke and burnt to a crisp.)

Always good to do this, makes you think about what each album means to you, reflects states of mind in a way, & times of your life too. And yes, it does alter slightly from time to time.

Right now as the flames draw ever nearer, my choice would be

Ommadawn ( I'd rather be burnt to a crisp, as you say, sweatpea, than never hear that album again)

Tubular Bells ( just because it is so unique)

& it's either Amarok or Incantations, and because the other two are similar to Incantations, it's going to be Amarok.

But how can I leave Hergest Ridge? How can I do that? or Voyager or Tubular Bells III or any of them. I'm keeping them all in a box & then I grab the box!

;)

I see you are new Sweatpea, welcome 'on board'!!

Amarok, TBII and the Elements box set. It's a box, so it'd be easy for me to grab it & run. :D

I would throw the cat into the fire so I could carry more albums  :p

TB II
The complete,  disc 1+2
Voyager

and thanks to my crispy cat, I add:

Crises and my own compiled I´ve called "extended" with all
MO´s extended works...

burn baby burn

That made me think about a very funny movie by Blake Edwards "Skin Deep" with John Ritter in it  (highly recommendable)

Especially the scene where Ritter sits with his grand piano and singing "my romance doesn´t need a castle"  while his (soon to be ex-wife) is pouring gasoline in the piano and the house is set a blaze

Clever idea. It could be labeled EMOR for 'Emergency Mike Oldfield Rations'. Might be a good idea to fill it with duplicate copies just so it will always at the ready. And thanks for the welcome, Bee. :)

I actually had a mental image of an infant in one hand, a cat in the other, and attempting to grab the CDs with my teeth.

With this, I consider that the rest of my CDs are already safe, which is already a big relief. :) My three Mike Oldfield choices would be Amarok, Tubular Bells and Incantations.

I suppose depending on how devastating the fire is, ie how many buidings are destroyed, we could always go out and buy new copies of those we have lost!

Really don't think I could throw either of my cats into the fire...whatever are you thinking of onion? Have they done you wrong and bad things?!!!  :/

Interesting to hear of everyone's choices though. Very glad to see Amarok is a popular choice.

Ommadawn and Amarok always... third one changes... I'm in doubt between Incantations, TB2 or by simply cheating some 3cd collection... but I would say right now that would be TB2 as I have listened to it today.

I think Tati has it about right... TB2003 or TBIII for me...too much indecision and I'd get a boined pinky....

Oh... tricky, but the three I couldn't live without are...

1) Incantations (essential for quiet reflection)
2) Ommadawn (Just for the side 1 finale alone)
3) The Songs Of Distant Earth (More dancified but still damn beautiful! )

This is, of course, assuming that all other Oldfield records had been destroyed in a freak accident, and I was unable to buy them again, afterwards...

Mike

Oh My God, is that the movie where John Ritter who was hiding in the closet wearing a 'glow in the dark' condom comes out to another guy wearing a 'glow in the dark' condom, (in fact, I think one of them had the stars and stripes on it) and they have a sword fight in the dark with their glowing penis's. I loved that movie. His wife left him because he was a sex addict. R.I.P. John Ritter. You know I think I have talked about that movie on this site before.

Now to address SweetPeas ridiculously obscene request.

I have had to pick a Top 5 which was hard enough as my list is a Top 10, and even that is a struggle, but I have never had to pick a Top 3.

I could not leave without

Tubular Bells (or at the very least TB2003)

It has travelled with me for my entire life since I was 12 years old and it would be like leaving one of my children behind.

Amarok

as it is my actual favourite Mike Oldfield album.

And the thrid would have to be

Incantations
Hergest Ridge or
Ommadawn

God this is SO hard. I think I could possibly leave Ommadawn behind as it has some similarities to Amarok, and Hergest Ridge just because it is shorter than Incantations.

So for today my third choice would be

Incantations

but I love SODE so much too

and Tubular Bells II

I'm melting!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, final decision for today

Tubular Bells
Amarok
Incantations

I need a valium  8^)

Ommadawn, Hergest Ridge, Tubular Bells, no Incantations no, Five Miles Out no TSODE no TB3, oh Buggered if I know, maybe I'd have to take my Boxed LP set then I get Ommadawn, HR and TB,  and take my CD of the Original TB for the variation    :D .
