Hey everyone,
i was just curious as to how everyone here first came about to listening to Mike Oldfield music, or how you discovered his music and how he has effected your life.
Im 20 years old and live in Canada, and I remember clearly the first time i heard it. I was cleaning the basement with my dad when i was about 14. He told me to go grab a CD and put it on so we had something to listen to. I saw a neat looking CD with a weird twisted bell on it and decided to give it a shot. He said Oh good choice, I haven't listened to that in a long time"
For the next 40 some minutes, we both cleaned the basement and listened to the CD. I got chills. I loved every moment of it. I asked my dad about who the artist was and he told me he was a european musician that he listened to a lot when he was in his 20's and living in germany on a canadian military base. he gathered up ALL of the his Oldfield CD's and gave them to me and told me to have a listen to them sometime.
Ever since then, i have been in love and addicted to Mikes music. Not only is his music incredible, original, uplifting, spell bounding and just inspirational, it is also something that me and my dad share together. I can not count the times that me and him have spent now, cleaning the house, going out on the boat, going for road trips, and listening to Mike Oldfield. His music has brought me and my Dad so close,
My Dad will be leaving to go to Afghanastan at the end of August for 9 months to serve a tour for the Canadian Military. I will miss him deeply and worry about him to death. But i know that while he is over there, he will have his ipod, with all of Oldfield's music on it, and i will also have mine. And every time he hears it, he will think of me, and every time i listen to it, i will think of him.
So thats my story about how I discovered Mike, and how his music has effected my life. What stories do you all have about his music? About when you first heard him, or what meaning the music has to you. I would like to know
Nate
