Well done BOOsTER! I see you took note of my suggestion
A lot of the synth sounds that you created are very good. Don't know if you did the piano from scratch, but it's quite convincing. The drums sound good too
I made notes while listening to it, jotting down various times and points. Here goes! I Hope you find it useful:
0:45 - the bass sound you chose for this part is a bit inappropriate. Mike had a 'vox pad'-type sound played in paralell fifths
1:33 - the 'dawn' section missed some of the chord progressions from the original. I forget, and am not sure, what you use to sequence in the notes. Is there a limitation to allowing short note values to be programmed in? You missed the fast elaborate sounds in the background that are a development of the initial 'rippling' passage at the beginning. This gave the section less activity
2:06 - in the 6/8 section with the drums there was a lack of a clear melodic line due to the very bitty, percussive sound. The other sound that is in place of the electric guitar on the original is good at carrying the melody, but this was way down in the mix and could barely be heard. A clearer lead sound would help this section
3:13 - from this point onwards, the transcription is occaisionally a bit shaky, which leads to some unintentional dissonances. The bass sound at 3:29 has the wrong notes. Say the key was in A minor (I haven't checked what it really is) - the notes would be a, g and e rather than a, g and d. It seems a small point, but it's quite conspicious listening to it. It detracts from the minor tonality in that one thinks it should be a major key on the fourth degree of the scale
Also, the 'lonely sea' section is one of my all-time favourite bits of The Lake! The tempo you chose gave it a sense of rushing on, rather than vast expanse. It could have been a bit slower like the original
At 5:21 it seemed insanely fast! The tempo from here should really mirror that of the 'dawn' section with the drums
6:10 - as mentioned before. I like the way the piano sound's created. It's probably better to have it sounding like it should be played on a piano by having proper chords, not strumming like on a guitar. This gave it an air of ABBA!
6:55 - these chords sounded right, and I think they are played before the climax comes in. Before that though, Mike has different chords when he plays it the first time. You might have missed out this passage. In which case, this is merely a fact
7:18 - Knowing that the piano sound was atmospheric and better than most of the synths, you used it in the most important section. This is good, but also it seemed a bit empty. It might or might not have worked better with a fuller sounding lead synth such as the one playing the ostinato at 8:45. If you did this, it might be more in keeping with the different passages as the same instrument would be in both of them
Hope you don't find my comments too critical. I wouldn't have the dedication to do something like that! Well done again
