I defy imagination again.

Why don't we try to imaginate the brand new Oldfield City in a moment now???

How could be the city itself, modern or oldie, silent or musiquie, flowing or static

Try to do something.

IMHO Oldfield City should have only 21 buildings (soon to become 23 with the release of Tr3s Lunas and the other MVR-related album). Each building shall be themed after one of Mike's albums, both in its colour and in the music heard inside it (to avoid excessive repetition, some re-arrangements and remixes of Mike's pieces may be used every now and then). The Exposed building should be a kind of free-access museum displaying all the most relevant items [discography, instruments, wax statues / photos of singers, etc.] related to Mike's career, including a model of the original TB and a PC on which visitors shall be able to play the MVR demo. biggrin Another special building, called maybe Tubular Plaza, may work as a shopping center for records and other Mike-related items; occasional live shows by various performers (including, once or twice a year, Mike himself) may take place into the Plaza.

...and as that old song goes: "Dream... dream, dream, dream, dream, dream..." smile biggrin smile biggrin

And the tallest building in the city would be so tall that it would be Far Above the Clouds smile

Heh, heh heh...

I can just iamgine it, but what would Amarok Building be like. Or Music from the Balcony?

I can also see it having a large tower (Crises Building) sticking out of the water. The Five Miles Out building could be the aerodome. I'm sorry but I would have to spend my time in the Tubular Bells II and III buildings. Mmmmm...

Imaginative topic, before all! wink

Outside the town, I imagine the countryside named "The Great Plain", and a few kilometres away, a mine of gold or a pyramid of "Maya Gold". In the town, there's a port, where some days, the sailors play an ancient tune called "Sailor's Hornpipe", but in marked days, they play a beautiful song, "Portsmouth".

In the town, there's a big hall with a "Blue Salloon", where a lot of musicians play classical themes of Rachmaninov, or an orchestral version of "Tubular Bells" or "Hergest Ridge", and the people have parties in that salloon.

Also, there's a pub. On Saturdays, a man goes there and plays vocal songs with his guitar, like "On Horseback". He drinks a beer after the concert. On Sundays, the pub is converted to a gaelic pub, and an Irish group plays tunes, "Moonshine", "Celtic Rain", "Women of Ireland"...

Well, that's my description of Oldfield Town. Let's write a book about that! biggrin

Greetings, Pickal.

There would be a bridge called the Bridge to Paradise leading to Dark Island (along with other ISLANDS, Mont St.Michel being on one of them) where Oldfield City is situated, which of course is a Tubular World where there's always Earth Moving and Blue Nights. The sea around this Island would be called Oceania.

There would be a park in the center of the City where the Women of Ireland pick Flowers of the Forest and you can find a replica of Woodhenge! And of course, the Outcast would roam this park, becoming a Man in the Rain when the Heaven's Open and the Four Winds blow and he goes Out of Mind, in an Altered State and gets the B.Blues!

THE TUBULAND TRAVEL GUIDE

When planning your vacation at Tubuland, start with a cruise on the QE2 replica which docks at the New Arrivals Visiting Center. From there, it's a short walk to the Ride-That-Train Station where you can board a coach (limited to one bag-of-secrets per passenger) to the Four Winds Hotel. This luxurious resort includes such amenities as:

* The Westerly Breeze Spa - unwind via deep deep massage, a far dip in the mineral pool, or sampling the assortment of bath products at the gift shop, Scentinel, whose bestsellers include 'Jungle Gardenia', 'Roses', 'Flowers of the Forest', and 'Westerly Breeze'® (property of Westerly Breeze Spa).

* North Star Restaurant - try popular signature dishes such as 'On My Artichoke Dip', 'Fa So Fondu', 'Roasted Wild Goose Flaps Its Last', 'The Thyme Has Pommes', and 'In Dulce de Leche Jubilo'.

* In High Tea Places Rotunda - where The East Wind Chimes Ensemble performs daily.

* The Blue Saloon - the only place to get real, tubularized Southern Moonshine!

Other points of interest:

The Aurora Borealis Nightclub - enjoy a simulated Northern Lights show on an expansive domed ceiling while dancing to music from the balcony.

The Inner Child Playground - visit family-friendly attractions like 'Frog's Water Ride', 'Thou Art In Heaven Merry-Go-Round', and 'The Reptilian Races' where Serpent Dream, Viper, and Big-Fat-Snake compete for the title of 'Top Snake'.

Orabidude's Surfing Supplies and Netcafe - even when a tempest is a-brewing outside, you may surf morning and evening inside.

THE TUBULAND TRAVEL GUIDE (supplement)

Although Tubuland is a mostly crime-free environment, you may notice the moat-surrounded spot on your map designated as The Tower of Trouble & Trial. This isn't as bad as it sounds, really, since it's just where you're temporarily sent if you've caused trouble and been found guilty at trial. As most prisoners tend to be chaos-making offenders from Poetry Nights at the Pub*, TTT&T's main purpose is to keep the streets of Tubuland safe from bad poetry.

* There is currently an underground movement of The Tubular Poets Society. They are keeping TTT&T under covert surveillance and breaches in security have been occurring more frequently. Their goal? For their art to be free and readily available to all. So far, they've gathered very little public support. It doesn't help their cause that it sometimes seems as if inmates don't want to leave TTT&T. It is rumored that the resident staff are actually lovers of bad poetry and treat their 'guests' as royalty. Some say this secret is closely guarded to keep competition for incarceration down. Aside from occasional mumblings, from both releasees and escapees, about "...a second in heaven..." and "...finally, an appreciative audience...", there is a curious silence over the goins-on at TTT&T. But since there is another rumor involving flogs and leeches, most of the general public are content with blissful ignorance.

Of the numerous participants at Poetry Nights at the Pub, Thelonius Bigby Bellvedere-Endicott III (aka 'Felonius Thelonius' as he prefers to be called) is one of the most popular, drawing sizable crowds. Though he has attempted to gain entrance to TTT&T (no doubt as a feather-in-the-cap of his 'Bad Boy' image), to his great annoyance the general consensus is that his verse just isn't that bad.

Taurus Tattoos - get your body art applied with needles to the accompaniment of blaring bagpipes. These instruments have been proven effective at dulling the pain. Of the sound of bagpipes.

Well, Tubuland isn't all cheese and roses; there are dangers. Some things to keep in mind:

1) lions roam The Great Plain
2) the Big Fat Snake, while not participating in the Snake Races, sometimes likes to terrorize boaters at The Lake
3) it is impossible to leave the Pictures in the Dark Gallery without bruises
4) "The Story of Mike Oldfield" is 'experimental theater' involving audience participation *shudder*

Lol.  Though I'm no stranger to bruises.  I find random ones all the time and I've got no idea where I got them.  I usually put them down to being a "U.D.I.", or Unidentified Drinking Injury".
And if snakes or lions become a problem, I'll get The Hero to come and rescue me.  :D

However, the thought of audience participation is rather disconcerting.  I might have to avoid the theatre until I've learned the art of invisibility.

There was a young fellow from Reading
Who twined magic and music in wedding
Casting wonderous spells
With his Tubular Bells
Though a fourth part is something I`m dreading...

That`s me off to the moat then... "Sperdoosh"  :p

Sweetpea has kindly asked me to contribute my funfair rides into the wonderful island world of Tubuland here.I wrongly jumped to the initial conclusion that Tubuland was going to be some Mike Oldfield equivalent to old wacko`s gaffe you know. But oh how wrong I was and as usual I should have known better of course.Anyway for the people who did`nt see this originaly(myself included)I`d say this thread is more than worthy of a bump regardless..

1/The Ommadawn white knuckle rollercoaster ride
2/The Lake logflumes
3/The Tres Lunas Teacup Ride Experience
4/The Trap(garden maze)
5/Supernova..Hav`nt decided what this is yet,but it`ll scare the crap out of yer..
6/Ascension..Kind of similar to Supernova but obviously there`ll be some sort of element leaning towards an upwards movement here.
7/The Altered States Hall of Mirrors
8/Aurora:virtual space trip
9/Nightshade Ghost Train
10/Joyride(rs):Go Kart track for kids
11/Blue Saloons:Go Kart track for mums and dads
12/Far Above The Clouds:Big Wheel...And I mean..BIG!
13/On Horseback Merry-Go-Round
14/Poison Arrows..Win a cuddly toy that may need medical attention..
15/Waldeberg The Peak:Big Dipper
16/Branson Bumpers:Dodgem Cars with Richard Branson`s face stuck on the front of them
17/Fast Waltz(er)
18/Hergest Ridge Tunnel Of Love

Hehe. "Branson Bumpers". Actually, they all sound like fun, and I'm not even much of a ride person. And I can so see hurling my cheese on the "Supernova".  :O
