This is definiely not meant to be another song association thread.

I have been thinking a lot about the moon lately and how it appears in our lives. Everyone has the experience of seeing it. And it's influence is strong.

I've got a list of tracks here that have the moon in the title and I feel they're all pretty good. Coincidence?

Big Bad Moon  Joe Satriani
Red Moon  Turin Brakes ( this is so good)
Moonwatch  MO ofcourse
Monday Monday  The Mamas & the Papas
Tres Lunas  MO
Mooonlight Shadow  MO
Moonshine  MO
Dark Side of the Moon  Pink Floyd
Whit Moon  White Stripes
Moonage Daydream  David Bowie
Moonshadow  Cat Stevens
The Moon is Rising  Freddie King
Clair de Lune  Debussy

(Exceptions being Bluemoon & Moonshine Sally by Mudd, which are awful, but I confess to owning them!!;)

any more? ;)

Moonshine on TB II of course, although I believe thats only a rather tentative association via the title. Maybe though. Depends what you get from the track I suppose :)

Not to do any sort of song association thing out of it, there is "Children of the Moon" by Alan Parsons (a song I have been playing in my head a lot lately).

I think we can keep this thread "Safely short" if we refer ONLY to moon songs we really love, rather than build an item consisting of 1,100 messages of nothing but "let's play a game and come up with another moon song title! I know. the "Sailor Moon" theme song!!!".

There is no "Dark Side of the Moon", really. As a matter of fact it's all dark.

How on this earth could I have forgotten Walking on the Moon by the Police, I love it!
I have not really got into Alan Parsons (yet) so am unfamiliar with Children of the Moon. The King Crimson track, Moonchild, I had also forgotten!

I would like to add Dancing in the Moonlight by Top Loader to the 'list'. I really love the sense of complete happiness and freedom in this song.

So what mysterious power does the moon have or inspire in musicians? When it's used in a song there's something about it that conveys a message we all understand. :)

I had come across a site just the other day of moon songs--can't remember how or why. I hadn't taken the time to explore until this very moment. Here it is, and happily, Mike's Inc and MS are listed. :) Even more amazing--you can listen to their interpretation of the music -- interesting that they begin Inc with part III (then go on to IV).

Under a Glass Moon by Dream Theater, Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven, Moonlight Serenade by Glenn Miller, Old Devil Moon by Bobby Caldwell, and of course We Like the Moon    I'm glad that the above link mentioned Under the Moon by Michael Walthius; that's a good track.

Any mention of Oldfield music and the moon can't be complete without pulling out your CD or LP of "Crises" and looking at the cover art.

He's got some Sun in his career, too, from "Children of the Sun" to "Sunjammer".

If you mention Children of the Sun already, there is Mrs. Moon and the Thatched Shop on the reissue, and it's actually my favourite track on it. :)

Don't forget "Shooting At The Moon", album and song by Kevin Ayers and The Whole World, such a great fusion of different musical styles, well I think collectively the band members were quite diverse in their musical backgrounds , but it all really works.  Check out the track "Lunatic's Lament" from SATM, some very intense guitar playing by Mike, wonderful, beautiful  :D .

Hiawatha loved your "We Like The Moon" link, had me in hysterics  , almost ROTFL.

I'm wondering what it is about Suns and Moons, I love the imagery of them, and collect them.

I think many people in these times don't realise the significance of the moon cycles, or the changing seasons, without the Sun or phases of the Moon nothing would grow.

Hergest Ridge and Ommadawn have very close associations with the Moon for me personally speaking, must be to do with sitting on the balcony of The Beacon watching the Moon rise over Kington and Hergest Ridge     .
