All right. now i'm sure everyone out there has a least favorite piece of Music done by the great MO and now is the time to confess.

what ONE album or ONE song or ONE track do you absolutely hate!? no matter how many times you listen to it, it is still annoying.

for me, i have to say i'm not a fan of 5 Miles Out (the album). it just sounds to damn annoying. ugh

you don't like Five Miles Out? IMO, thats his best album of the eighties! Anyway, um I honestly couldn't HATE a song of Mike's, but I think The Trap is pretty bad, it doesn't even work as good atmospheric music, although its scary it just gives me a headache. And that bit in Innocent where it goes 'speak to me, like the very first speak', I think that is the WORST lyric that I have ever heard in my life!... Arrghh thats terrible, I feel like I've sinned! muhahahahaha biggrin

I'm don't like Five Miles Out too. It's too aggressive. I hate "Shadows on the Wall" too. It's too aggressive too. Have him try to impress us or the Heavy Metal fans ?

I can't stand neither the voice of the young boy in the piece "Amber Light". It's atrocious. It's the worst of all.

Apart these thing the rest is ok or fantastic.

IMHO his worst track is Runaway Son.
The whole album Earth Moving is a heap of crap with just some tiny jewels...
But Runaway Son is NOT one of them.

The only Mike's song which I hate, despite he did not compose it, is Speak (Tho You Only Say Farewell). It is terrible, awful, I can not stand it. mad
How they can put that song in a compilation like Boxed?. What was Mike and David Bedford doing when they recorded it (perhaps too many beers) and what was Virgin thinking when they decided to put such a song in the compilation. confused
All the song, from the beginning to the end is out of tune.

I like "Speak...", and yes, they were hammered when they recorded it. It reminds me of hanging out with drunken uncles, and, well, that's my stuff. "Make Make" on 'Heaven's Open' makes me cringe. I can appreciate the sentiment, but that's about it.

In High Places from Crises. Horrible song, horrible vocals. eek eek. Jon did a much better work in Shine. smile

I haven't got all of Mike's albums yet so I probably haven't heard the worst stuff. But I can't stand Shadow on the wall, yuck, nor Islands (the song). I've got both of those on my Elements CD and if it wasn't for In Dulci Jubilo I'd probably give the album away in order to convert someone else smile

And Five Miles Out is fabulous. biggrin

I don't really know. The Killing Fields is pretty boring for most of it, but Etude rocks. I don't like much of Voyager either. Most of Music From the Balcony as well, even though the middle bit really rocks. The rarity Bones is awful as well. And I don't like a few of the songs on Islands. Or much of Incantations. That's it really.

Need I say it? Moonshine (TBII). I haven't heard many of the albums (only ... 8!), and quite frankly, anti-climax isn't the word for that. What an awful note to end on. Why couldn't they have put a reprise of The Bell on after it, like at the live concert.

Ah yes, Moonshine. Bleugh! My least favourite track on the album. The reprise at the end would have been so much better. In High places is awful as well, and I find Foriegn affair terribly repetitive.

I don't mind Moonshine...it's a silly thing like the sailor's hornpipe and nothing much more. Nice bit of banjo in there...

I would like to add the chants of what sounds like 'Sexy Woman' on The Millennium Bell - thats another cringe-worthy experience when you play that with someone who is not a fan there with you. urgh, 'oo-ach-a pacha mama, oo-ach-a sexy woman!'. I know it supposedly means something in Peruvian or something, but still, I speak English. And anyone saying 'sexy woman' makes me think Lionel Richie, or Tom Jones's Sexbomb...

There are quite a few things I can't stand (and like ChiRho I haven't heard all the albums yet). But I must say, Five Miles Out is just behind Ommadawn (my favourite MO album) in my ranking.

-Innocent, Nothing But, Hostage, in fact a great deal of EM (I do like the title track, See the Light, Holy towards the end, and strangely enough Runaway Son)
-Gimme Back and Mr Shame
-Pacha Mama and Mastermind
-the dialogue in Altered State, and I'm not a fan of Moonshine. I think I know why though...there might be some good banjo-work in there, as Korgscrew said, but it's very different to what else I've heard by MO, whereas the Hornpipe sounds fine to me because of other pieces like Portsmouth.

The worst thing, though, is probably Foreign Affair. VERY irritating, really, and doesn't go anywhere. Yeah, like most of my posts wink. I s'pose I'd better finish that 'Shadows of the Past' thing though.

Foreign Affair is very nice song. It´s like a never-ending story. You are waiting it is ending, but no it continues and continues and continues...wonderful.
I don´t like songs from Earth Moving. I listen it only once and it was enough.
I hate Sunlight Shinning Through Cloude from TMB. When I listen TMB, I always skip this track.
