Not much real news about Mike over the past year so how about we make up our own! Just for a bit of fun - be nice. My first attempt below:

From: mattsfantasynews.com

STOP PRESS: Battle Angel Alita on hold

The interweb has been abuzz today as news leaked that director James Cameron's next project after Avatar will not be the previously announced "Battle Angel Alita" but instead will be a film based upon Mike Oldfields little known album "Amarok". Few hard facts are yet known about the project but it is said to involve the same advanced 3d presentation techniques that Cameron has been working with on Avatar. No details of the plot have been made public but rumour has it that there is a science fiction/fantasy aspect to the story which will rely completely on the album as its soundtrack with no additional narration or sound effects. The film will therefore be exactly 1 hour long matching the album length. It has yet to be confirmed if the film will be released on Imax as well as through RealD digital cinemas. Sources suggest Cameron is aiming for a winter 2011 release date.

Hairy Bowles of aintithotnews.com commented "never heard of this Oldfield dude but with Jim Cameron at the helm, I'm stoked! Looking forward to having my eyeballs fried in 2011..."

While Dick Oliver of tubules.net had the following to say, "never heard of this Cameron chap but Amarok is a fantastic and underappreciated work of Mike Oldfields and we're very much looking forward to seeing what comes of this project."

More news as it comes in!

ok, I can dream, back to the coffee...

NEWSFLASH: New Mike Oldfield album found buried in Incantations

Following the disovery in 2008 of a hidden morse code message within the recording of Tubular Bells, scientists at Bell Labs have used advanced signal processing techniques to look for any other hidden content within Mikes work. They were startled to discover that fourier analysis of vinyl copies of the album "Incantations" suggests it was mastered on tapes previously used to record another work of Mikes - and that with suitable filtering the previous recording can be clearly heard. It had been thought that the relatively long gap between Mikes release of Ommadawn in October 1975 and Incantations in November 1978 was due to Mike dealing with personal issues. This new analysis suggests that the time was in fact spent recording a full album which for some reason Mike chose not to release. Those who have heard this new work have exitedly called it "the fourth part of the holy trinity"  with some saying it is his best instrumental work to date. Additional cleaning-up of the audio recordings is currently taking place prior to release and it is hoped that the new album - provisionally named Trinity Quad - will be available within the coming months once copyright issues have been sorted out.

Universal Music have tried to find out the history of this unpublished work but when they called Mike and asked "Why did you not release this album? Why?" there was a problem with the phone line.

BREAKING NEWS: Mike Oldfield working on MusicWiiR

As a followup to his earlier works MusicVR, which innovatively blended computer graphics with music and Maestro, which didn't, Mike Oldfield is now working on a new project for the Nintendo Wii games console. MusicWiiR (pronounced "Music We Are") will present players with a 3D world to explore filled with music, puzzles, games and challenges. Other features of the game include:
  • Online features - join other peoples worlds to fly around and explore together
  • Balance board compatibility - use the Wii Fit balance board in mini-games such as "tune your balance" where you have to try and match the pitch of your note to the music by shifting your body weight.
  • Mii import - You can use your Mii as an Avatar within the game, and that is the representation of you used when visiting other peoples worlds
Mike is working on new music as part of the games development and hopes to release two albums to coincide with the games release. One with chillout/trance interpretations of the music and another as an orchestral album with the help of arranger Carlos Jinx. Due out for Xmas 2009.

Ive also heard a Rumour that a New Group is to be set up following the Huge Success of the 3 Tenors...

From a Bar in Spain Mike Oldfield said that he was considering an Offer from " Mike Rutherford" And Pop Sensation MIKA to set up a Band.. Namely The "3 Mikes"

It may seem an unlikely Combination but Music Sources say watch out in 2010.   for further details..

MIKE ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM - Kindersonica

Universal Music have announced that Mike has recently begun work on a new album due for release early in 2010. Describing the theme of the album, Mike said "a lawyer friend of ours gave one of the kids a toy drum. I started playing with it myself and thought - hey, you can actually make some good music with this. This planted the seed of the idea for the new album in my head and I've been working on it ever since.". The album will be entirely instrumental with all tracks performed by Mike only using childrens musical instruments. As a father himself again of young children, Mike intends to explore themes of innocence, play and learning with the compositions.

Mike is teaming up with children's instrument supplier AMUSICA and using only instruments from their 36 months plus range here. Mike has already begun work on the first track which starts with a repetitive theme played on Amusicas popular Schoenut piano..

p.s. sorry about this folks - the TB Ultimate stuff had me a bit depressed and I felt the need for some sillyness...

BREAKING NEWS ...

MIKE OLDFIELD never played any guitar solo himself.

In the seventies Mike got away with it by playing
the guitar note by note and cutting and pasting of tapes
did the rest. He never played the guitar solo's in full.

On his 80s work Mike didn't play the guitar either.
Every solo on his hits was played by assistent Jeremy Parker.
That's why he was credited on every album ofcourse.

In fact, the real Mike Oldfield can be heard on Amarok.
All the multi instrumentalist could ever play was a toothbrush.

It's a miracle this secret was kept for so long.
Because when you see the man play in his videoclips
one might have wondered before why he's holding
the gits in a vertical position. He simply has no idea at all ...

Breaking News!

Due to the multiple problems the 500 fans encountered after purchasing the "Ultimate Signed Edition" of Tubular Bells, Mike has procured all of their email addresses and will sending out the following email, which I just received:

"Greetings to my loyal fans,

I truly have been keeping up with the 'Ultimate Edition' disaster and I want you to know that I care, and have been involved with Universal to get things corrected.

In the meantime, I'd like to offer each of you a chance to personally join me on Hergest Ridge, on August 8th, for a fan gathering and a private live concert of my 2009 Hergest Ridge release. As I have never skimped on anything, please be assured your airfare and hotel costs will be paid for in full.

I would truly like to meet each and every one of you as I deeply appreciate the support you've shown me through the many years. I also will have a surprise limited-edition CD to give each of you, autographed of course.

I humbly hope each of you will take the time to reply to this email so my producers can make the necessary arrangements.

I look forward to meeting all of you and have no doubt this will be an unforgettable event.

My Best Regards,
Mike Oldfield"

OMG! I emailed a reply and just received a confirmation containing a flight from Tennessee and hotel accomidations!

I'm so happy I could just cry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike Oldfield writing a Musical

There has been speculation in recent months that Mike has been working on new material. Due to a typo on a popular fan website website this had mistakenly thought to be an album using a Telecaster guitar. In fact Mike has been hard at work on Teleprompter!, a musical theatre production about life in a busy television newsroom. The musical features song and dance numbers set to the rhythms of busy typing and also a dramatic opening number melding Mikes track Only time will tell with the BBC News 24 introduction. Describing his inspiration for the work, Mike said "I was typing on my keyboard one day and the rhythm of my fingers on the keyboard was sounding a bit like a drumbeat, then a parrot flew into the room and squawked 'Breaking News! Breaking News!' and I suddenly had a vision of a newsroom full of musical chattering keyboards and dancing newsreaders, it all expanded from there."
