For interest, there is an article in The Times Newspaper (Thursday, 24th June 2004) in the "Click" supplement on page 8.  It is an interview by Mike talking about Maestro.  I don't have a scanner so cannot scan it for all to see but maybe someone who does have one can rush out and buy a copy.

Sounds interesting.

And...a bit surprising since the last events from Mike regarding Maestro.

There were some very interesting quotes in that article.

"There's demos on the Web by young lads of 19 that are astonishingly clever, and they're just doing it in their bedrooms on their PCs." Aha! So it sounds like our songs are being heard by someone, eh? That is, I think it's pretty obvious that if he hears any demos, he's probably hearing them here, or somewhere else Mike-related. How's that for good news?

"I"ve done my first techno track!" Uh oh...

"BRIAN ENO: His full name contains too many letters" *LOL*!

I'm nearly typeless.

If he's going to incorporate a lot of techno, I hope he does something brilliant and interesting with it.

"Mike, Thanks for making it all possible, Richard."
"One of my all-time favourites." Tony Blair.

And the journo goes on to say, "With those two as your biggest fans, being hip's the last thing you have to worry about."

Or....how you treat the rest of your fans.

That must be the ugliest picture I've ever seen of Mike.

Totally. Maybe we could start a Worst Picture of Mike thread, the worst work went over so well--but I am only kidding. About the thread, that is. The picture didn't do him justice. Well, maybe it did, who knows. Guess when it comes down to it, would we really care if he were aging like Gollum? Nah. It's what's inside--and hopefully, a good next album.

A comment Re: the placement of the RB t-y outside the toilet: it seems like such a good place for it....if not being used to line a bird cage.

Think I'm in need of an attitude overhaul.

If you open a book which covers the basics of portrait photography, you're likely to find the advice that using wide-angle lenses for portraits is generally not a good idea. Why? Because they make people look like Mike does there...exaggerating the features of the face.

Couple that to lighting which casts shadows under his eyes and makes his features look rather craggy, and a print/scan that makes all the colours look washed out (partly a lighting/exposure thing too - see how the highlights on his face are burned out) and you get Gollum Oldfield.

It's not hard to please a lot of people. You just treat them with some respect.

But I'm recycling old ideas here.

Thanks for the link to the interview peeps.

Did anyone make sense of what he was talking about here though;
"One mystery remains for Mike, why he has remained so "unhip" for so long.
"Eighteen months when it all went crazy" (thinking back to '73) "& that was it, I don't understand it".

?????????
Is he talking about joe publics' perception of him & his music, or what?
