At the beginning of "The Trek" I read a little musical allusion to Janáček's Sinfonietta. According to Wikipedia, the latter was dedicated to the Czechoslovak army; and Janáček said of the Sinfonietta that it "was intended to express 'contemporary free man, his spiritual beauty and joy, his strength, courage and determination to fight for victory.'" Clearly these sentiments fit right in with the theme of The Killing Fields; and it's easy to see why Mike might want such a musical allusion.
