The mandolin is perfect. I can't describe what the Venitian effect sounds like, but it does sound like Venice. Yeah, I saw the Doge's Palace too, but I can't link that to the song. Venice (and the Venitian effects) is just... I don't know... beautifull. Another story: when I was in Florence, waiting outside the Uffizi Gallery, there was this street musician playing Etude... "The Doge's Palace" (the song) is indeed not linked to the Doge's Palace in Venice. I guess Mike named it like that because he nicked the style of Italian composer/arranger Gianpiero Reverberi and his group Rondò Veneziano, a strings-and-woodwinds studio orchestra [actually made up of musicians from Rome and... Germany ] who plays a contemporary, upbeat style of Venetian baroque music (only original pieces, mostly by Reverberi - not adaptions), with fairly heavy drums, bass, electric guitars etc. Mike's "The Doge's Palace" is very similar in style to a Rondò Veneziano piece called "Odissea veneziana" (Venetian Odyssey). -------------- Ugo C. - a devoted Amarokian Back to top
