OK...
You have a time machine for 24 hours of your own life. Obviously you will want to visit a Mike concert, but which other concerts will you want to see across history?

Most gigs are 2 hours or so. But, you need to eat, so use up 2 hours for breakfast, lunch and dinner. (and we'll need to know where you went for those). And there are some amazing moments in history that aren't Mike gigs, so you are alowed to visit 2 of them for an hour each. That leaves , hmm.. 10 possible Gigs to watch.

On this journey you have a machine that allows you to speak/understand any language, and a machine that makes VIP laminates (or their equivilant).

So, my 10 gigs in history would be:-

1) Mike, 1983 wembley. Avoiding myself who was there, but armed with a high definition video camera and a few quid for the sound engineer to record a tape from the desk for me.

2) Pink Floyd - the wall, again at wembley

3) The Beatles, Cavern Club Liverpool, somewhere early 60's

4) Mike. Exposed Tour, not sure where was best

5) Jimi Hendrix, Woodstock

6) Robbie Williams, Knebworth (with that VIP laminate to avoid the crowds)

7) Live Aid, Wembley for the Queen section

8) Mozart, Vienna (actually, i need to research that a bit)

9) Bob Marley, Brixton Acadamy

10) David Bowie, Ziggy says goodbye

Breakfast - a roadside cafe in 50's USA, pancakes, bacon and good coffee

lunch - sunday roast with my family - no time machine needed!

dinner - a roman orgy, complete with peeled grapes and nubile servers :)

my 2 non music trips

Judea, 1st century, check out that Jesus guy

Berlin, to see the Wall fall

so, what would you do?

The answer is 42 - but what is the question?

Sorry to sound like a greedy uncultured moron, but if I had a time machine, the first and foremost thing on my mind would be to screw the national lottery.

Otherwise i'll have to give this interesting question some thought before deciding. Hopefully not too long though or i'll run out of time to use the machine in the first place.

A nice brain teaser this one! I'll see if I can manage to pick ten concerts.

1. Mike Oldfield, Berlin, 2000: For the new year party and to hear him play that awe-inspiring solo during the light show.

2. Mike Oldfield, Tubular Bells II premiere. For a long time this was my favourite music of all.

3. Pink Floyd, the PULSE tour, 1994. The most supendous light show.

4. The Band, The Last Waltz. That VIP thing would definately come in handy here: you needed an invitation to get in.

5. David Bowie, Perth, 2004. The one I had a chance to go to but stupidly turned down. I'm regretting that now.

6. Harry Chapin, anywhere. He died seven years before I was born, so being able to see him would be magical whenever it is.

7. Woodstock. All of it! (I know it lasts more that 2 hours, but I do have a time machine).

8. The Concert for George, Royal Albert Hall, 2002. Wonderfully moving tribute to George Harrison.

9. The Who, Leeds University. With ear plugs.

10. Live 8, the Pink Floyd reunion.

Two historical events:
1. The beginning of the universe. Whatever happened, I'm dying to know. I'll take a video camera and sell the footage for $$$$.

2. Lords's, London, 1930, to see Don Bradman bat. Bradman himself says this particular innings was the best he ever played, so I'll take his word for it.

As for meals, I don't mind where I eat, but I'd eat with Albert Einstein, Don Bradman and of course Mike.

I think that would be a good day!

Gigs, there's no one that springs to my mind right now. I shall make another post here soon. :)

"Historical" events: I'd zoom back to 10 (or 9) September 2001, I'd catch a plane to America and I'd tell to friggin' Mr. Bush that someone is going to bust those towers very soon.

For me I would only need to go back 48 hour's to Nottingham Arena to see Alice Cooper, for you see my friend's on that night I was watching Alice for the fourth time on a tour that ended last night in Bournemouth, this infact was the seventy fourth time I have seen Alice live, the man just get's better and better. Live without a doubt rule's.

Well, Mike's gigs are great, but a time machine for twenty four hours!!???  :O  Gigs would not be on my list....

Meals: Breakfast in India, nude women feeding me and all
Lunch in, well similar to above but a different country
:)
Dinner, well, I would try Heston Bloomenthal's restaurant  :D

And the time machine would be used to go back through the ages, finding out which women were the best

You'd be exhausted at the end of those 24 hours then!
And in desperate need of some paracetamol

Every time I see this item, I am reminded of the recent "Alan Parsons" album of the same name.

I suppose if I had a time machine, the first thing I would do would be to go back in time and manage to purloin a copy of the Alan Parsons Project's unreleased "contractual obligation" album entitled "The Sicilian Defense".

I would love to have seen Pink Floyd's "Games For May" event at the Royal Albert Hall in may 1967. Mostly in order to hear the unreleased pre-recorded compositions from Waters, Wright and Barrett, but also to see Roger Waters throw potatoes at a gong. :-)
