OK not strictly Mike Oldfield, or music at all really,(sorry Korgscrew if I've posted in the wrong place), but please can you help?   I believe there's a Tolkien Weekend on in Birmingham on 14/15 May. Since many  TubularBoard community members appear to be Lord of the Rings fans, I would like to  ask those of you in/around Birmingham if you have any more details for this event.  I understand the main events are at Sarehole Recreation Ground and Moseley Bog (in the B14 postal area of Birmingham), I can't find these on a map.
I was contemplating the best way to get there, is driving around Birmingham on a Saturday best avoided?.  Alternatively I could be green and take the train (as it doesn't cost me anything)
.  I could get a train from Euston or Milton Keynes to New St Station, but then it's a case of getting form New St to Sarehole
Recreation Ground, and back, I would appreciate your help with    :). Is the local transport service good?
Many thanks for your help

Moonchildhippy :)

Hi  :)

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the administrators, try this link here for all you need to know about the Tolkien Weekend including how to get there via public transport!

Have fun  ;)

Hard to see this as being out of place. JRR Tolkien wrote a large amount of song lyrics.

Where the Falls of Minnehaha
Flash and gleam among the oak-trees,
Laugh and leap into the valley."

True, I know JRRT wrote "The Road Goes Ever On", this was set to music by Donald Swann, who I believe is/was a Jazz musician  :) .
Other than this I don't know much about him.

For anyone else interested in going to the next Tolkien weekend, (or indeed visiting Sarehole Mill at any time) rather than trying to find Moseley Bog on a map, look for Swanhurst Park. Also, the numer 11 bus stops right outside both the park, and the mill.

Other than this I don't know much about him.

Not only that, his works from the Silmarillion through LotR are chock full of poetry, much of which is intended to be lyrics to songs (the Ents' lament, the silly Tra-la-la-lally song by the Elves of Rivendell, etc.)

Bringing it back to the Oldfield realm, his "Three Rings for the Elvenkings Under the Sky" line was used as the basis for a Sally Oldfield song.
