Does anything else he has done give you that fulfilling feeling?

Hi and welcome Catwixen.

I completely agree. It's such an upliftying track, can't help but turn the volume up when it comes on. I usually play it in the car on the way to work, perfect to tap the teering wheel to and always makes me smile.  :D

I adore that piece. Absolutly adore it!  Along with a part "close to it" on TB3 with a screaming guitar solo and a female vocal so intense it sounded like she was crying and does almost invoke crying(a good edit to tie-in with the thread on what to play at your funeral). TOTM could be considered uplifting but also the melody and "churning forward motion" of the piano might suggest desperation........seeking "my lost love" or something. Running looking for "my honey" who left me. Eliminating the electronica/techno parts of TB3, it was a return for MO(in my assessment) to very emotional forms of music he had abandoned for a while(except for Voyager). Now you got me wanting to hear it....I gotta go.

It made me think of autumn the first time i heard it.Not sure why but at the start it has a really moving sort of melancholia about it which i always associate with autumn for some reason.Dunno why but there you go.
BTW welcome Catwixen. :)

Yes, it's a remarkable piece. Like so many of MO's pieces it connotes for me a kind of leap into infinite loss, which somehow gets transmuted into something positive.

Mike manages to convey in music that which cannot be verbalised a bit like translating a beautiful word in sanskrit into music because there is no english word to describe the spiritual, see tb 3 live  cheers, deb

Some English words derive from Sanskrit. "Crimson" and "jungle" are examples.

TOTM is one of my favourite recent instrumental tracks of Mike.

And I have been listening to Kates The Red Shoes over the last couple of days too, what a coincidence hey!

By the way the correct response to the greeting  "Top of the morning" (according to my Grandad who was from County Wexford in the south east of Ireland) is "And the rest of the day to yourself").So if Mike does TB 4 we should expect to see a track of this name.

Interestingly, the part I most like is the non-piano refrain with a kind of irregular rhythm.

BTW I like cats too. I have one called Finchaven.

If it wasn't for the fact that i live in a first floor flat and am not allowed pets i'd have a least one cat. They are independant, don't bug you to go for walks and, apart from food, pretty much take care of themselves.I'd happily kidnap(catnap?) my ex-wife's cat.The softest and possibly stupidest creature on earth who will not leave me alone when i visit my daughters. She has a habit of putting her front paws on my stomach and, when she has gained my attention, clawing her way up me to sit on my shoulders.
Back on topic (sort of)apparently right at the very end of In Duci Jubilo a cat can be heard.Les Penning, who played the recorder part, has confirmed that it was one of Mike's cats.

Matter of fact, that'd be a great name for an album. If you translated it into Icelandic, Sigur Rós would probably like it. :)

Lol the Aussies and the brits....shall this special bond ever break? Every major musical act I love is British...the comedy (who could forget "The Goodies" or "Kenny Everett")...
Top o the morning to you Brits.....
