I'm surprised none of our Irish members have picked up on he idea   :O, especially seeing as Mike is half Irish, and it's St Patricks Day.

So I'll raise a pint of Guiness or a glass of Baileys :), to all good  things Irish.

So here's to Mike, Baileys, Guiness, Thin Lizzy, Leprechauns, U2,
Oscar Wilde, bohdrans, not forgetting Maureen Liston, just to think if she and Ray Oldfield had never have met how different things would have been musically speaking.
There would be no Tubular Bells or Hergest Ridge, no Ommadawn  :(, isn't that enough to make you want to  cry ito your pint of Guiness???  It does me.

Happy St Patrick's Day folks :D .

I was wondering if I'd see anything. I heard this morning that St Patrick's Day was only big in the US, and not in Ireland.

For days, there have been leprechauns selling cars on television.

That depends: U2 isn't exactly the same as Daniel O' Donnel.

Traditional Irish songs, I wouldn't class U2, the Corrs etc as Irish (although they obviously are) but that's pop that originates in Ireland :)

Whiskey in the jar and such like

St Patrick's Day is certainally big in England, possibly bigger than St George's Day :/ , but I think St George's Day is making a comeback .  I'll celebrate St George's Day with a pint or two of English Ale or Cider  and play Mike's music that makes me think of the English countryside, so either Hergest Ridge or Ommadawn   :).  When I play Ommadawn I always seem to picture the view from The Beacon window (I'd love to wake up to that every morning).
FATC is another good one that seems to have an Englishness about it, when all the climatic part has faded out, your'e left with  this sound of birds tweeting, church bells ringing.  Make's me think of cricket on the village green on a Sunday afternoon , so quintessentially English.

Oh island of the soul
Valleys hushed and white with snow
Ireland's eye - you linger with me 'til the day I die
Oh how it hurts to go
The waters ebb and flow
The changing seasons come and go
Ireland's eye - forever reaching up into the sky
Oh how I'll miss you so
The sunlight dancing on your rocky shores
The moonlight playing upon the water
Your memory will stay with me forever-more
Wherever I may roam
Stay with my dreams I will see you
Safe in my heart I will keep you
