Its been a while since I visited, but I was pottering about on YouTube tonight and stumbled upon this BBC Top of the Pops recording of Mike performing what appears to me to be a very different version of Guilty: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c61cM9Tgglc Does anybody know anything about this different version? As it was obviously not being played live when the programme was being recorded, was the playback recorded specially for this TOTP performance? The guitar from 1:50 onwards is like nothing I've heard with this version. I don't have the details to hand but I interviewed the drummer David Humphrey, for Dark Star, several years ago. He even gave me a copy of the BBC contract he had. David Back to top

It was recorded at Olympic Studios in Barnes, in a 1 hour session, the day before the show. The drums were hired. The BBC contract bears the date of May 2, 1979. It is a good version but Mike was a complete looney back then - check out his appearance on Tiswas shortly after. Back to top

Cavalier (Lost Version) Group: Members Posts: 598 Joined: Nov. 2010 Posted: Mar. 12 2011, 12:19 Thanks, orbscureDDJ, there always seems to be some variation of search I've never tried on YouTube;)  What a fascinating little performance.  I don't know Airborne's interview explains more but I wonder if the Musicians Union had anything to do with it being performed live.  They had a never-ending battle with the likes of Top of the Pops about pre-recording.  Eric 'Monster' Hall certainly says he swapped original tapes for Queen , as most people did.  Mike must have got the hang of it by Moonlight Shadow! -------------- "Who was that?"
