this very cool..one of the best (if not THE best) mixes yet. it will certainly be on the car stereo tomorrow. Just a shame it's so short, any chance of similar treatment to the rest?

How would the ants/bats fit into that?

The answer is 42 - but what is the question?

I've been listening to this every day for some days now, and I admire it more and more. It's as though you've discovered some new thread of feeling in the original melody that was hidden in there all along, but only now can be heard. Set against that upbeat percussive background, there's somehow a beautiful wistfulness in it that's really moving.

The only other observation I'd make (and I make it in fear and trembling, because who the hell am I to know) is that I feel slightly uneasy during the first 30 seconds, as though there's something not quite right about the timing between the main tune and the percussion. It's so slight that I can't even be sure it's real - it's an almost imperceptible feeling.

But I would love to hear you do this with more of the Tres Lunas themes. This is wonderful - really. Thank you.

you're right, it seems to be a little out of time in the beginning. but it's because of the type of sound. the attack got a little delay, and it's the good of the sound, but it's only a wrong perception of the brain because of this kind of attack (the phrase is quantized with the groove). when the piano starts to play it seems to be turned right, only because the attack of the piano is not so rounded, and it recalls the beats of the groove.

thanks for the compliments.

Does this not count as a cover track?

Anyway, quite decent, I think it's generally got a nice sound and vibe. I'd tune that conga up a bit though, it sounds a bit flat (in a pitch sense) to me...I guess I'm the only one who's disturbed by that though!

I automatically play sounds with slow attacks slightly ahead of the beat, otherwise they will indeed feel out of time...and the feel is what it's all about, in the end, is it not? You can of course do the same thing in a sequencer by just nudging it a little bit in the right direction (it's especially good if your software will allow to nudge backwards and forwards by the millisecond, you can be very precise about such things then, if you feel like it).

I have to say, I rather hoped that some kind of melody would come in as the piece went on, but as I've felt that with a lot of your compositions, and nobody else has mentioned that when commenting on them, I think that's more indicative of my own preferences than anything else. I get into very analytical moods at times, and start seeing (or hearing) everything else in terms of what I'm working on at a particular time, and that's I think exactly what I'm doing here. So, go your own way and don't mind me!

This is a style which I've never quite found a home in myself, so it's always interesting for me to hear what people are doing with it, especially with regards the kinds of beats and types of sounds used. I like the sound and mood of this one, and it was very interesting to hear.

Do you mean, another, different melody? I'm puzzled, otherwise, because this particular melody here is one of the most beautiful I know..... I must have spent hours (cumulatively) swimming with the dolphins and listening to it in Tr3s Lunas.....

Yeah, I mean something additional to the repeating descending motif. Like I said, my judgement may well be skewed after hours of writing counterpoint-heavy oddness - nobody else has felt the same as me, so it's obviously no fault of the piece.

I think that this music, whilst being 'pleasant' enough, doesn't really develop or expand, or add anything particularly to the original. I would be interested in knowing who the 'remixer' in this case would cite as musical influences (obviously other than MO)?

myself, of course :) i'm not a "remixer", i'm a musician, and i re-played "tr3s lunas" with my own fingers. it's not a remix, and it's not a cover. it was only a boring sunday afternoon and i had no inspiration to create something. i've started to play the "tr3s lunas" phrase on the keyboard and the "summer remix" is borned.
