yeah that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. i got an email from Amazon UK, saying that my preordered Tres Lunas had been shipped to my house (and this was on jUNE 29TH, 2002). So i don't know why that particular record store had things messed up. best of luck to ya getting it somewhere else!!

I also had difficulty buying Tr3s Lunas on 1/7/02, being told the release date is now 5/8/02. In the end I've ordered it from www.CDWOW.com for £8.99 and free delivery - not a great lot of choice but it's meant to be on it's way to me!

Does anyone know what is going on with the UK release date? I can't find any info anywhere.

Yeah,i am not happy either,i went to Virgin megastore yesterday,1st July, because again i was told that was the UK release date, but they said it's not out till 16 August. This is crazy, what is going on ahhhhhhh.I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact he is with Warner Spain now?.
Come on Mike, what is the delay, everyone else has it,why not the UK.

8.99 i think is a pretty decent deal (especially w/ free delivery as well). i got it from Amazon UK and it was 10.38 + 3.80 import thing or something. so the total was about 13 pounds, but in USD, it's $20.42 or so. but that's still cheaper than anywhere else, so i thought it was a decent deal. i don't understand why you all in GB can't get it from the stores. that's pretty messed up. perhaps your best bet is to order it from the internet such as madad and i have done (and i'm going to get mine sometime next week)

I'm DISGUSTED with Warner. This is complete contempt for Mike and his fans. HMV and Amazon claimed it would be out on the 1st July - till the 1st July when suddenly the release date is put back to 12th August - notice how we've all been given different dates.

I've waited patiently in the UK without importing because I wanted to stay loyal. Now its been delayed for the second time, all I can say is FUCK WEA UK. They are losing many, many sales because of their lazy stupidity. I'm going to order from the internet now, probably play.com (I think they have it for £8.99). Releasing the album everywhere else 2 months before the home country (and third largest market) of the artist is stunningly dumb. I wouldn't be surprised if companies like Virgin and HMV had put pressure on WEA to delay the release because they wanted to sell the expensive import copies they have first (Virgin Megastore Leicester had the album for £17.99 on Saturday). Well, screw them.

Oliver

Ok, according to Amzon.co.uk's MO page Tres Lunas is available NOW and "usually ships within 24 hours". the price is 11.99 GBP (i saved 1 Pound by pre-ordering it, woo hoo!). It carries the release date of July 1st, 2002. it is also #73 in their sales rank (out of thousands). Nowhere on here does it mention the release date being in August.

From the Dark Star mailing list

Warner UK informs us that the single To Be Free will be released on July 29th in the UK, followed by the release of Tres Lunas on August 12th.

And in response to tubularbills:

They've changed the date again on amazon then, because it most certainly DID say August 12th. If you search specifically for Tres Lunas from the amazon.co.uk home page then it brings this page - note the July 2nd (?) release date:

Tres Lunas search @ Amazon.co.uk

As long as Warner actually promote the album before release date then the long wait *might* be acceptable. But going on past performance, they probably won't bother at all.

Oliver, feeling slightly less annoyed than earlier

Is this the commercial end of a great artist in the UK?I went into Virgin and HMV here in Liverpool today 02 July not a sniff of Tres Lunas.I was to dismayed to even ask at the counter due to some loud noise enimating over my hearing oh in store radio oh I see. These are both large outlet shops they have always had Mikes releases on display as you walk in on schedule even playing it but now this has become a farse. :p
Hey, why not leave it until Christmas.Might as well or Easter 03

Just to say that I am have now gone to Play.com and bought the album for £8.99. I was going to wait for the offical release but as warner bros are now playing silly buggers I've decided against it.

Thanks (and Hello) to everyone who took the time to look at my post. I'm new to the site and am still finding my way around. I've been a Mike Oldfield fan since the late 70's (Incantation's was one of my first albums).

Are you talking about the single To Be Free or the album Tres Lunas?

Because Tres Lunas has been in my local Virgin Megastore for a couple of months now (I'm in Norwich if anyone nearby is interested).

Very interesting indeed.

The idea of Mike doing an interview with the Sunday Times recently was of course to promote the album. July 1st it said...some people who read the article may just have remembered to look for Tres Lunas in the shops, come July 1st (about a week after the article was published). Having gone out and found it nowhere to be seen, those people will probably not bother going looking for it again. Missed opportunity there...

Stores in the UK which are selling Tres Lunas, including Amazon, are selling imported copies. Those don't count towards UK sales figures for the album, of course, so buying them may not help the situation (I say that having imported a copy myself, so I can't say much to condemn doing it ;)).

It was the same with the Berlin DVD - they messed about for ages with UK release dates, with there being no obvious reason for it at all (it wasn't like they created a special UK edition with extra features...though the way things are going, I'd be more inclined to expect a special UK edition with fewer features - perhaps with cardboard black and white printed packaging for you to colour in yourself so Warner can squeeze an even bigger profit out of it). Thing is, on its eventual UK release, we'll probably find it selling for more than the price of importing it yourself from elsewhere (perhaps like the £16.99 shops seem to charge for copies of Tubular Bells...when the rest of the remastered albums are selling for about £10...I wonder what their excuse for that one is)...

Perhaps it's time to stage a protest...
