Thanks, ktran, there's about 60 seperate audio tracks of those sounds heh. Pain in the ass, but it sounds pretty good. We played the original TB theme (including the harmony) at 4 minute stretches through-out and if we frigged up, just started over. Guess along with the BUS and midi, we should learn about using loops as well, eh? Though aside from being entertaining by making ridiculous mistakes on a simple theme, it's fun to play along, too. :)

No, Lennon never said that. Ringo Starr, however, shouted those words at the very end of Helter Skelter.

Er ... excuse me for going very off-topic.

It was indeed Mr. Lennon who shouted those immortal words. Trust us...

Thank you for the reply; it was quite 'on-subject' and thoughtful of you to offer your critique of the song.

It was? I'm sure it was Ringo. At least, it sure sounds like his voice.

By George, we believe you are right!
More of a JL thing to do, but yes, upon digging out that track and listening to it today, can clearly hear that it is RS.

I had heard the story of that, and people say that Ringo really had his fingers blistered by the end of the recording - Helter Skelter is, in fact, a condensed version of a jam that lasted for twenty-seven minutes. I mean, imagine yourself bashing drums that hard for 27 minute straight! ;) But if you listen really, really closely, it seems like someone is prompting him to yell. So maybe it was John Lennon's idea - it does sound Lennon-esque, now that you mentioned it.

Er ... right. Well, here goes: This sounds exactly like something Mr. Oldfield would do himself these days. Very competent indeed production-wise. (Though perhaps a little cluttered with effects at the beginning? And that bass part starting at 1:22, I don't understand the metrum. Sounds somewhat out of rythm to me.)

However. You really don't want my opinion on this kind of stuff. I'm a narrowminded old school-Oldfield-fan, you see. I don't like anything but the odd bits of Oldfield's output after Amarok. I absolutely hate TBII. TSODE is no-brain rubbish to these ears. Voyager's a cheap sell out. And so on.

But I compliment you on a nice production.

Wow, you're like an older version of me! :D

Um, well, I finally heard the track. And tell you what? I'm not sure I'm fit to give you opinions, because I absolutely loathe that kind of music. Sorry. :/ But well, it is very well made, so if I were to give you an unbiased comment, it would certainly be positive. Good job, I guess.

Thank you, Sir Mustapha and Satyagraha for your feedback.
In all honesty, we don't listen to  "techno" music ourselves, though it does have it's own merits..   We were basically just having fun with the TB theme and  many tracks later, we had this. :)

We are flatterred that you felt that the production was of such high esteem.

The real story of this track is Julie.  Understand that my opinion is biased. She had only been playing guitar for a few months, maybe 20 hours in actual playing time.

Our tastes run the range from Bach to  Barrett to Fripp/Eno to Zimmer to Evanescence ad naseum. Essentially, we are progressive music folks and if you drop the techno drum track in the song, what type of music do you actually hear? Wouldn't really call it techo/dance then, eh?

Regarding TSOD, you really ought to read the Arthur Clarke novel that inspired the album; you might appreciate it more. Also, if you fancy yourself "old-school Oldfield", then you might want to check out  the material that preceded Amarok (great album, that). Heh we're actually thinking of doing Don Alfonso next.

Anyway, thanks again.

Tony

Well, it's off to Miami we go, with a more polished mix of this song, to the World Music Conference.
In the year since we posted this here, Mike has said that he may do some techno material on his next LP, so we feel a bit more confident about this piece despite some of the flack we recieved after posting it here.
We think ir would be nice if this circulates around the club circuit as it would hopefully bring a new audience to MO. Hopefully it's not to scarry. :/
