In 1972 Uri Geller left Israel for Europe where he gained a lot of attention, apparently reading minds and bending spoons psychically. The image of bent spoons quickly became famous.
Tubular Bells came out in 1973. I wonder if, when contemplating what cover image would suit an album called Tubular Bells, Trevor Key took the image of the bent key and applied it to a tubular bell?

There's never been any mention of him as an inspiration, from what I've read. The twisted bell idea Trevor used came from the beat up bells Mike had pounded with a sledgehammer to get the right quality of sound out of them.
