Hi,

A new track called Turning Over.

Some of you will be aware that I produce 2 distinct types of music - really chilled and slightly chilled with up-tempo bits

Well, seriously they're more 'classical' and 'prog' but they're not exactly hip-hop or techno...

Anyway, this fits into the up-tempo style for the first half but changes for the second half.

One of my next two albums is going to be called In Dreams and is inspired by the dream states we find ourselves in throughout our lives. Turning Over is more literal than most of the tracks because it depicts the transition from a tense dramatic dream through to a more peaceful dream state simply by the sleeper turning over...

Not exactly profound but it's the music that counts!

One thing to note - I'm not generally a guitarist and all the guitars you hear (including the bass) are hand-played. Please let me know if you think they sound professional enough to be included in the album, and if they're not then why not? (Constructive criticism is good!!!  )

Anyway, enough waffle... here's a link to an embedded Soundclick player on my own site.... hope it works!

Cheers,
Terry.

Terry,

Had a chance to listen and really enjoyed your song.  Your guitar work was good enough that I didn't realize you weren't "generally a guitarist".  Nice piano.  The transitions were telling a story.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate you taking the time to listen to it and give feedback.

I had a brief listen, not enough to give a full review. But, although I have really liked some of your other work, this one didn't do a lot for me.

I wasn't immediatley drawn in, took too long to catch my attention. The initial guitar was hidden too far down in the mix and I felt it could have been brought forward more.

Anyway, I'll give it a few more listens and comment more then.

The answer is 42 - but what is the question?

I like it! And i do not easily like music. I find the piano solo to be the best part. The best thing about it is that it does not sound like you put this out of your hat at any given moment.

The only minor point is for me that you continu to do the same stuff in the melody. You do change the backgrounds, decoration of the melody..but there are parts where you wish the melody would turn to a different solution.

Thank you for your comments... I'll take them on board.

As a side issue... the link I gave is to an embedded soundclick player and every time the track is played it counts towards the charts...

Thanks to listens on here and from some of my friends I'm in the top 40 of the Prog Rock charts on Soundclick. If you could spare the time to listen to track a few more times to get me further up the charts then I'd be very very grateful.

Thanks to all that have listened.

Cheers,
Terry.

Very good. I liked the monotonic rhythm of the first 2 minutes. The beginning reminded me of the first track of Pekka Pohjola's "Mathematician's air display" album. Similar chords. The atmosphere changed completely in about 2:00. The second part was beautiful, lovely piano. Very nice track.

Thanks very much backwoodsman.

I've never got round to obtaining a copy of Pekka Pohjola's "Mathematician's air display" although I've always been tempted. How 'Mike' like is it and is it worth getting?

Cheers,
Terry.

I like Pekka Pohjola's album. Mike plays guitar on few tracks and the guitar sound is definitely that Mike's "signature sound". Perhaps Pohjola's music is a bit more towards jazz, whereas Mike's music has more folk influences. But if you like progressive (instrumental) rock of the seventies then you will probably like Pekka's album as well.
