I had this idea from a PM I've been sent,  I'm wondering, who would be in your ultimate supergroup if they were to tour, even though it's a hypothetical tour.  I was going to keep this to musicians who are currently alive, as unfortunately the greats among the dead, wouldn't be able to tour.

Here goes then Moonchildhippy's Ultimate Supergroup:

Roger Waters on bass
Nick Mason and /or Roger Taylor - drums
Robert Plant - vocals
Keith Emerson - keyboards
and wait for it.... wait for it....I can't keep you in suspense any longer,
Mike Oldfield, Brian May and Jimmy Page, on guitars each taking it in turns to do a lead solo  . The  greatest guitarists  IMHO, (well not forgetting Jimi Hendrix, too). Lynerd Skynerd had three guitarists, so why not.    :)

But look what happened to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Having that many guitarists must be some sort of affront to the guitar gods.

Your supergroup comes across like a sort of Prog Zeppelin. Nothing against Zeppelin, but I'd probably have more Prog (replace others with Fish as vocalist, Hackett on guitar, etc...and Carl Palmer on drums, without a doubt).

Erm, has this been done before? Seems to have a familiar theme, but my memory aint what it used to be.

So,

Bass - Nick Beggs or Pino Paladino

Drums - Simon Phillips

Keyboards -  Geoff Downes

guitar - Mikey Boy

Vocals -  Freddie Mercury (if we are allowed deceased) or Robert Plant

co-produced by Guy Chambers to secure a hit single

I'm sure  Korgscrew will give me a ticking off if a similar thread has been done before  :) .

I've had a thought on this one, and I have come up with a supergroup using deceased musicians, the only think is I won't get to see it until the God/Goddess, decides it's time for me to go and see the Great Gig In The Sky, which I hope won't be for another 60 years or so.

John Bonham - Drums
Phil Lynott - Bass
Freddie Mercury -Vocals and piano (if needed)
Jimi Hendrix - Guitar
Brian Jones - Guitar, sitar (if needed) and virtually any other instrument.  What talent Brian had,a  vastly underrated musician   :)  :D .

Hmm, this is a hard one. There are so many to chose from, even if we're limiting this to living musicians. OK, I would choose:

Bass: Chris Squire
Drums: Simon Phillips
Keyboards: Rick Wakeman
Guitar: Mike Oldfield
Vocals: Absolutely no idea. Too hard to pick. I could go with Jon Anderson, but that would just turn it into Yes with guests. Roger Waters would be good, but he'd have nothing to do in terms of bass playing with Chris Squire already there. None of my other favourite vocalists really fit with the rest of the group. I think a 'musicians hall of fame' would be easier for me to do than a dream band. That's a good idea actually, I might think about that some more.   :)

OK , include deceased musicians if you so wish, I've just done a Supergroup using all dead musicians. I was just thinking of this from a hypothetical tour point of veiw when I originally posted it, if this hypothetical Supergroup were to become reality and go on tour  :)

With deceased musicians, I have John Entwistle and Keith Moon in my band. Now it's become The Who with guests!

Sinead O'Connor - lead vocal
Neil Young - lead guitar, vocal
Pete Townshend - rhythm guitar, vocal

Does this group give anyone "the jibblies"?

- Vocals by Bonnie Tyler
- Mike Oldfield on the sax-guitar synth (heard on Tr3s)
- Anita Hegerland on guitar
- Cloddagh Simmonds on drums

Yes.  It's got Bonnie Tyler singing in it so I'm jibblin' like a crazy man!  The rest I could probably handle OK in comparison.

:/

Olrac, was Nick Beggs the Kajagoogo basist?

@ Ratty - yep, and still playing chapman stick and releasing on his own label. He put out an album called Homelands with 2 other musicians (Ellis, Beggs & Howard) which I still play loads.

Last year , Nick Beggs was at the Yes show here in Exeter, and Chris squire kept waving and playing extra fiddly bits for him.

That one sounds pretty good, even if I have never heard of the 3rd guy in the list. Dub this band 'King Genyesis" !

My apolgies - have been working far too many long hours lately!

Anyway, the aforementioned Steve Wilson is the singer/songwriter/guitar genius and mainman of PORCUPINE TREE.

He has also produced for Fish and guested for Opeth too, amongst others.  :D
