I chanced upon this website, which has a certain very familiar piece of music (in an unfamiliar arrangement). I couldn't find on the site any mention of Mike, or who did the arrangement - does anyone know?

That's the point! And it's not acknowleged. Surely this is a breach of copyright??

I'm no policeman, milamber. It would be better if someone with clout took the guy to task!

If I'm not mistaken, Mike based that very heavily on a traditional celtic tune. This arrangement is very similar to Mike's, but I don't think this is as big of a deal as it would be if this guy used, say, the Exorcist theme.

I don't see the problem either, what harm is that causing to anyone?

This arrangement is not at all unfamiliar to me. It's a cover [by whom I don't know, so don't ask me! :D] of the first section of  "Mike Oldfield's Single", before the guitars come in. Syd B. is right, above here, about the tune being traditional, but if I were Mike O. I'd get very cross with this guy for having used my (Mike's) arrangement without permission. Because, yes, the arrangement is very much Mike's.

P.S. If you wish to hear the whole of (the original version of) "Mike Oldfield's Single", just let me know. ;)

I'd say the old man probably doesn't give a flying, considering how particularly lovely the bahamas are this time of the year.

Nothing wrong with cover versions in my opinion, especially when I doubt anyone is making a profit out of that small music excerpt in particular.

Actually, I think the admins should be told. What's the best way of contacting them?

Aw c'mon, Nightspore it's not that big of a deal mate. And like Nabla said I doubt Mike would care. It's not like any profit is being made through the use of the music.

@Milamber: Actually I believe Mike, er, adapted quite a few trad. melodies for Tubular Bells.

Mike has a right to know. It's up to him, not us, to decide whether other people can use his arrangements. As a writer, I'm particularly sensitive to the whole idea of plagiarism.

I'm not saying you guys ain't right, like Syd B all I'm saying is that perhaps this is not such a big deal after all. It's not going in detriment of anyone. Speaking also as a musician I'd be honored if someone decided any of my music to be worthy of a cover version :)

Nightspore, if you want to contact somebody about this, go right ahead - I can't stop you, and I really don't care much about it one way or another.
You're a writer? Anything I might have heard of? :)
