At about 2:10-2:11 into Caveman, there's a muffled cymbal hit. It sounds very weird to me - it's off-beat, and it's at a point where (at least IMHO...) a cymbal hit is not really needed. ;) It's almost like it was something that Mike didn't really want to be heard (a mistake?), and thus it was somehow pushed back in the mix... :) I hear it clearer on the DVD-A, but of course it's also there on the CD. I tried listening to the original Piltdown Man sequence [from TB 1973, on all the four mixes I have of it: original (CDV2001), Boxed, Elements and HDCD], and, although TB 2003's Caveman can't really be compared with its 1973 equivalent [I think they're just too different... :)], in the 1973 version the hit is not there. I also tried turning the volume way up, to hear if it was hidden somewhere in the mix - nothing, it's just not there. :)

Can you please let me know your thoughts about all this?

i'd say it's just a reverb added to the toms. you can hear it after every tom hit.

Sorry to disagree with you, Q!, but I just listened again to the piece and the cymbal is not after every tom hit. It's only there. ;)

It's a cymbal hit, it's deliberate - there to give some variation. Sounds fine to me...

Yes, it's definitely a cymbal hit, and I tend to agree that it's deliberate.

Mistakes appear to you when you less want them to. ;)

I've listened to that bit just now. If it is the cymbal crash I'm thinking of, it's definitely deliberate, and I remember it in the '73 album. Might sound odd, but it's just alright.

Another mistake is in the Finale of Part One:
J.Cleese says "Mandolin" twice.

That's also deliberate, John Cleese being John Cleese. :) He goes: "Mandolin? Ah, er... Mandolin." :D
