How does he play some of the guitar bits?
There is one bit, that starts at 22 minutes 30 seconds (Fast Waltz, if you use the track list), that is REALLY FAST!!!
It's a cool bit, but I would like to know of anyone who has tried to play it. A midi file would be nice too

i reckon it can't be speeded up.

1. When you speed it up it goes much higher.
2. At the start of the very fast bit it sound like he used a bass guitar. For that to be speeded up he would have had to play extremly deep notes in the orginal playing.

i found some more really fast guitar playing, but its not by mike oldfield.
its right at the end of Wild Honey Pie by the beatles, which is on the white album.

its really cool, even though it only lasts for about 5 seconds.

Yeah, I have a few Vai albums. He can play really really really fast, but sometimes he slows down a whole lot and then he plays with a whole lot of emotion. Those are really nice pieces then, but I've only heard a few. For all those who don't believe me that Steve Vai can play with feeling, go to http://www.vai.com/AllAboutSteve/discography_solo.html. Listen to the clip of Sisters from the Passion and Warfare album. That is really beautiful playing.

That's the thing though,it's only a small bit of playing with feeling, that is why i prefer the likes of Oldfield and Knopfler, they can both play fast, without the need to tap,and both play slowly, but even there fast playing is emotional, and i just don't get that from Vai.

About Steve Vai:

listen to "For The Love Of God", "Tender Surrender", "Sisters",
"Whispering A Prayer" or "Windows To The Soul"...

...the most emotional masterpieces from Steve!

Slow, fast and with f***** good style!...

I have only heard "For The Love Of God"from those listed, and it starts ok,not really emotional in my book, but, then as it goes on,it just turns into the normal Vai thing of,look what i can do,and emotion is the last thing he is thinking of.

...or maybe he played it really low... then speeded it up?  :p

The Beatles snippet mirwais57 is referring to isn’t actually the end of Wild honey Pie, but is in fact the beginning of the Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill.  Just wanted to clear that up.
