I had a thought whilst looking through my  record collection, about the labels that appear in the centre of Virgin releases.

My LP of Tubular Bells has the green "Two Virgins" label, as does my "Boxed", is my pressing of TB mid c1975-78, as I've seen TB on ebay with the white centre and the lizard.  My copy of Hergest Ridge  has this too, I bought this believing it to be an original 1974 pressing     ;) .
Moving on to Ommadawn the LP centre is beige coloured with the  "Two Virgins"  being coloured lilac.
I've also got the white vinyl of the Take 4 12", this has the red and green centres one colour on each side, as do later LP reissues of Tubular Bells.    Yes I know maybe I'm being anoraky, but I like to know what pressings I have of each album  ;) .

Any vinyl enthusiasts are you able to help out.

many thanks :) .

Hi

My understanding is that the first Virgin Labels were white this was up to late 74/75 I think, Im presuming this as I have copies of some promo 7" Tubular Bells Samplers with this label also Don Alphonso and the Mike Oldfield Single had this Label. this then followed with the green labels and I think also the beige.

Later pressings from 76 / 77ish onwards had changed design again, this time being blue with a disco style logo, the green & red label followed just after this, also in the same style was a white with blue stripe and lettering, I have this label on a 7" Guilty and the 12" blue vinyl editions.

If i find more info I will let you know

A good explanation of the labels can be found in Rainer Muenz' discography here.
