Yesterday, I went to the Virgin Superstore in Orlando, Florida. I've been to it a couple of times in the past. I looked for Mike Oldfield CDs, hoping to find remasters, and could find none. I went to the desk and asked. They checked and said that they did not carry any.... Of all places.

(I did settle for a Marillion remaster, after confusing them with "no, Fish with an F, not a Ph!")

isnt that surprising seeing as virgin would not be what it is today without oldfield's tubular bells

how ironic!

I was in that same Virgin Superstore a few years back (unless Orlando has two?), and MO stuff is always the first thing that I look for. I can't remember what they had, but I'm sure I'd have been complaining about it, and probably right here, if there hadn't been anything.

Gee--I should be in Orlando as I type--that makes me feel even more justified in missing that conference! No MO at Virgin! :D

Chicago's Michigan Ave. store generally has a selection of MOs, both in rock/pop and in imports. Not a COMPLETE set like they should offer, but at least more than Tubular Bells. I seem to remember mentioning that they should have everything by MO available because if it weren't for him, there might not be a Virgin S. The sales associate had no idea about MO's connection with Virgin, and I'm not sure he ever heard of RB.

I did the same thing at the Orlando Virgin Superstore: when they told me there was no MO, I could not help mention his role in helping the company get off the ground.

in the UK Branson sold the shops off. Most of the companies with Virgin names aren't actually owned by him, he's usually a minor partner but with a profitable slice of the action.

Maybe it's the same over there?

The answer is 42 - but what is the question?

Even so,i'm sure if you asked them to order any Mike Oldfield album, they would be able to get it for you.

AFAIK this is what they do in all good music stores around the planet... not only at Virgin Superstores.

However, I phoned a friend of mine in Rome and asked her to check for Oldfield releases in the Superstore there. Surprise-surprise, they only had some copies of Crises. And a lonely leftover copy of Islands. :)

Just in case anyone's curious about the London Megastore,
I thought they had quite a healthy selection when I was there two weeks ago.
They had at least a dozen different albums in stock.

I was only really interested in "Exposed" but took the plunge & came away with some of Mikes' 80's stuff that I hadn't heard before.
I would of usually just ordered from ebay or Amazon but I had this uncontrollable urge one morning to hear "Guilty" again asap.
Weird huh?

Oh & I got followed by security.
Which was nice.
