It sounds, mono... in HIFI mode o_O. I can't tell if its a fault in your mp3 encoding or whether the mix was really that poorly set up.

I don't hear the spectacular capabilities of the Roland Phantom being exploited anywhere in there, sounded like a GM wavetable soundcard. If you bounce into these forums with high expectations such as proclaiming to be the Next Mike Oldfield, (anyone who knows me knows it would be me if anyone :P hahaha, just kidding!;) , you're only setting yourself up for some quite repulsive comments from some of the most hardcore Oldfield fans... beware.

As a musician myself, with at least some similar equipment I can tell you have a long way to go to get anywhere near the most out of it.

You have potential but, if you carry on parading like this on these forums it will only be for disaster! (A word of advice; I've been on the Internet music scene long enough to know how sour these sorts of things can turn out).

Anyway, this sort of advertisement shouldn't be posted in the General Forum as rule of thumb suggests this should be under the 'Other Artists' forum.

Good luck with your music career anyway.

On this particular board, I guess it should go in the "Fan Music" section.

I and several others did tell you what we thought, but the whole thread was removed for some reason

Yeah. Shame that, I tried to bring about a level of reasoning with the pros and cons of Steedie's work. I didn't think it was inexcussably bad, but not checking tb.net enough I never got to see if a reply was sent to my post...

Yes, well, some comments were posted which were what I'd deem rather inflammatory, and with the whole thing feeling rather headed for disaster, I felt it safest to pull the plug.

Perhaps I'm cynical, but these "please listen to my music, it's the best" type posts always seem to come from people who've got their work somewhere which has popularity charts...
It would always be nice to think that such messages are from people who are really interested in sharing their music and gaining constructive criticism, but from the posting pattern which generally accompanies them, I tend to get the feeling that there's another agenda.

Still, this topic can stay in 'other artists', as long as it doesn't turn sour.

As long as you don't go to a Bob Dylan forum and find this:

"influenced synth/piano music?
Come on-I'm really going to be the next Bob Dylan!!
Richard Steed.
www.soundclick.com/steedie
P.S My jazzy song 'All the Fields' is doing incredibly well in the soundclick charts at the mo.Go on!Get behind it and tell me what you all think!
Richie Steed."

or at George Michael with the word being "....next George Michael".

Still. I wonder what the "Mo.Go on" is.

Yeah. I doubt he's ever heard any of Mike's music. Having said that, I hope he can prove me wrong...

Not Bob Dylan, but it seems certainly Marc Almond, Enya, Martin Gore and Vince Clarke...amazing how some people get around, isn't it?

Mr Steed, if you want to come here as a genuine fan of Mike Oldfield and join our musicians' community, that's great - there are people here who'll be only too happy to offer opinions and advice.
Over the top hyperbole won't work on people here...I'm not sure it'll work on people anywhere, in fact. It's more likely to stir things up the wrong way (though I have to admit to being more than a little suspicious about that...). You just have to present your music straight-up, without the big fuss, and people will listen and tell you if they like it. If they don't like it, I'd suggest working harder at it - having an A Level in music is a good starting point, but there's a lot to be learnt. The list of compositional, production and arranging tricks out there is almost endless...

By the way...shouldn't the next Mike Oldfield be able to play the guitar as well as keyboards?

Well, I missed all the previous thread, so could we please have a working link to Steed's stuff? Then I can make my own mind up.

Mind you, given the excellent standards set by others here at Tub.net (viper, Brandon etc) he'll have to go some.

Thanks to m0d and others for a working link, I now feel able to pass comment.

Mr Steed, i admire the confidence of youth. In my younger years I was going to be the worlds greatest poet and reporter, and I seem to recall another young musician who had a world shattering album in him too...

Mind you that other 17 year old musician just got down and did it and managed to put his debut album at Number One for a very long time.

So, your output does not quite match your comments I'm afraid. Check out the other musicians here. And learn.

What you will find is a community that is honest and constructive, and more than willing to help, advise and teach.

No doubt your mother and music teacher share your confidence, I would ask you to add a touch of humility.
