I was wonderin' if I'm the only guy who listens to someone else's music except the one of Mike Oldfield. I mean, if there wasn't any MO, do some of you have other music favourites like JMJ or Vangelis or Tangerine Dream? (Mike is the best anyways ). ;)

I listen to masses of other music by pretty much everybody. If its good I'll listen to it ,I don't give a toss who its by. Anything by Massive Attack or the Chemical Brothers ( I saw them live for the 7th time recently, that is sad I know) usually hits the spot.
The first 4 albums by JMJ are pretty much sublime but he dissapears up his own laser-harped backside fairly rapidly after that.IMHO. Vangelis and Tangerine Dream have never really done anything for me personaly though I do own a few Vangelis albums, a few nice tunes.

at last i've found someone who thinks the same about JMJ as i do. the first albums where exellent but everything after Rendezvous is well..........just sad, i've said for ages now JMJ should go back to basics and write something original like Oxygene or Equinoxe, the stuff he's doing now could be played by just anyone. it's not defined enough, it's not JMJ...it could be Moby or Robert Miles! or just some kiddy on a bontempi      (joke)

Agree. What is happening? 'Sessions 2000' by JMJ, 'Tres Lunas' by Mike Oldfield... I know, I know... explore new territories... expand music style... and what does that give us? Something so altered in style it's not even recognizable!
(At least IMHO Vangelis with his 'Mythodea' keeps to his territory.)

I sometimes listen to Jarre if I feel in the mood, normally when doing work - it's quite good to work to. :)

I'm developing my music collection over the next year so I might have a look at Vangelis' work.

Bladerunner is a brill Vangelis soundtrack to start with  :) I was listening to Jarre earlier today - I played Oxygene Parts 7 - 13, and Chronologie in their entirity, for the first time in ages  :) I must say that I'm so pleased I did; unfortunately the CD medium encourages me to skip tracks all too often and just play the same old favourites. In reality, it's often those tracks that don't hit the spot on the first couple of listens, that eventually seep in via the subconscious mind, gnaw away at the brain and eventually steal one's heart and achieve longevity in terms of playlist status - as I've just found out  ;)

Do I listen to other artists? Absolutely. My tastes are rather varied (and very warped according to some friends :/ ). A quick look at the CD's above my head (on a shelf!;) show that beside the MO ones I can see Eurythmics, Bonzo Dog Doodah Band, 10CC, Tangerine Dream, David Bowie, Spike Jones, Kraftwerk, Stranglers, The Who, and assorted compliation stuff. And that's just the ones I have here.  :D

No. Probably no. I'm one of those who really don't listen to anything else. In fact, before the discovery of Mike I didn't care about music very much. It may sound quite weird but I considered it... useless. Just thing to waste time. But Mike changed my opinion :-)

I love music of many forms. My other favourites are Yes, Rick Wakeman and Harry Chapin (all 70s kind of artists!;) plus Moby, who is just about the only modern artist I listen to. I have a Steve Howe (from Yes) solo album, Natural Timbre, which is an all acoustic album which is unbelievable.

I also recently got the Roger Waters:In the Flesh live DVD, so I discovered Pink Floyd. That was pretty good. There are lots of others, but they are the main ones.

The reason I loved MO music was that it was 90% instrumental and full of atmosphere, thats why in the late 70's/early 80's, a lot of you liked earlier tangerine dream and  JMJarre, etc.

I eventually found a more modern band that gave the instrumental and dream like quality of many of these earlier artists, with the inclusion of some chanting, singing parts.

That band was ENIGMA, they have brought out four albums, the most economic way of listening to the majority of their work is:-

ENIGMA TRILOGY CD SET (first three albums)

Ok they are a bit commercial but who is'nt these days.
But they are good.

Cheers MO fan :O
