I have just answered my own question but thought i'd post it anyway. I read on MO.com that Mike was " off on the Hayabusa". I had no idea what this was and vaguely wondered if I had missed some details of a new tour (oh please, please!;)  Then I checked, and it's a very powerful motorbike! Well ofcourse it is!!

Now I'm worrying myself sick that he'll be alright. Speed scares me. I thought he liked Tai Chi and that sort of stuff. This is the other end of the spectrum!!

"On Hayabusa"

I love to ride, I love to go fast
My engine roaring, louder than "Outcast"
And if you see me zooming past
It's me on my Hayabusa

Chorus
Hey and away we go
Smash the grass, flatten the snow
Bugs get caught in my teeth, of course
I'd rather be here than on a brown horse.

My bike thunders, gives your ears pain
Wide open throttle, I've got no shame
As long as the helmet protects my brain,
I'd like to be on a Hayabusa

Riding in the city, I make big noise
Causing traffic chaos: I love my toys!
And always, when given the choice,
I'd rather be on a Hayabusa

Chorus

You'll see me zooming, here and there.
With a motorbike, instead of a guitar.
But when you see me, it's not in a car,
You'll see me on my Hayabusa.

Some stay on, and others fall,
Some smash their bikes against the wall.
But it doesn't really matter at all,
When you happen to be on Hayabusa.

Chorus

So if you you feel a little downtrod,
Ride at Hergest Ridge: tear up the sod!
You'll be a motorbikin' god,
It's good to be on a Hayabusa.

Chorus

Chorus

:D   :D

Hiawatha, you are so funny!!! I am still laughing, brilliant poem, wonderful images!!

I especially loved the bit about tearing up the sod... I think you may just have influenced the way I listen to Ommadawn in the future.

FAB :D  :D

thanks :)

I was hoping to do one that would give Mike himself a chuckle if he ever showed here.

Nothing adds to the almost-sacred atmosphere of Hergest Ridge than having a a lot of loud motorbikes crisscrossing it, eh?

In response to the original post (if I may return to the topic proper ;)), I'm reliably informed that it's not just any old powerful motorbike, but the fastest motorbike in the world. It's made by Suzuki, and it's the black one in the recent pictures.

By the way, I'm amazed that you, of all people, hiawatha, haven't yet also given us "The Song of Hayabusa"...

By the shores of Gitchee Gumee,
By the shining big sea water,
At the doorway of the wigwam,
In the early summer morning,
Hayabusa stood and waited.
Mike revved up the mighty engine,
The air no longer full of freshness,
He sped off churning dust behind him,
Westward toward the neighbouring forest,
Past the swarms of papparazzi,
To Mercury, the money-makers,
Happily singing in the sunshine.

Is it now clear why those pictures show Mike in the woods with his motorbikes?

"Hayabusa", n., m. - someone who smokes the grass instead of feeding it to his horses..  ;)
