In the vein of "What is the least commercial album you own", here is the reverse:

What is the MOST commercial album you (proudly) own?

What is the most pre-fabricated marketing-triumph bestselling  "pop" / "top 40" /"top of the Pops" album you own?

(I think I have a Michael Jackson's Greatest Hits somewhere, but it is pre-Triller. I have no Britney Spears, Aguillera, etc...).

Well... since you mentioned Jacko a.k.a. the self-appointed "King of Pop", I've got HIStory and several other albums by him. And I like 'em a lot. :) I've also got "Spiceworld" by the Spice Girls and a couple of things by Take That.

In the '80s and late '90s I used to buy those NOW compilations, but that was definitely then. :D

hehe i was thinking about that question too Hiawatha   ;)
For me it must be the soundtrack album Topgun. I still love it.
It is in the same category like Earth moving!!!!!
The most commercial song i have must be Britney Spears "Everytime"  :D

I used to own a best of Poco double-CD. I bought it years because I confused them with some other group (possibly Focus?), That was a very commercial album, and I sold it out of embarrasment.
Other than that, Mike Oldfield is propably the most "easy" think I listen to. Apart from T Rex and some early Status Quo.

Anyway, what does commercial mean? Music that sells a lot or music that is meant to sell a lot? There's a certain confusion there. There used to be tons of bands in the mid80s who played "commercial hard rock" that confusingly didn't sell shit. Even more confusingly, AOR has a become a cult thing over the last few years among young people. Basically, we're talking about music that is appreciated by a cult audience for its attempt to appeal to the masses. That's kind of sad...

As in "pop-tastic, heat of the moment, manufactured"?

I've got steps, S-Club 7 and Dido, Blunt, but I can blame the kids.

But, in my youth I had ELO, ABBA, Adam Ant, Gary Numan, Wham! and others which were considered commercial (and cost me a few playground humiliations), but now are seen as classics. So maybe these commercial albums of the 90's and naughties will stand the test of time?

The answer is 42 - but what is the question?

All of Michael Jacksons albums but I don't class them in that category because he is a talented musician who writes his own music.

James Blunt - like it but haven't played it since I got it.

Madonnas - Immaculate Collection and Music, both commercial but good.

Three Pet Shop Boys albums????? which I am a little embarrassed about.

Lots of stuff by popular artists but I can't think of anything manufactured or Stock, Aitkin and Waterman (or whatever their names are), certainly no IDOL, Popstars, Britney, Cristina, Jessica, boy bands except for one Take That single, 'Back for Good'. Oh I do have a Shakira album that was a gift but even she writes her own stuff I think, and Ricky Martin!

I do have Gregorian chants, does that count? Cafe Del Mar, but they were both gifts as well, I wouldn't buy them.

Or an entire album of blues songs on the line of "I lost my nose, and I'm so blue..." (or the "I Used to be Black, Now I'm White, and I'm Blue too" blues.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha... :D If he were Paul McCartney, he could really sing "I used to be black, but I'm gonna be black no more."

At least McCartney doesn't have to put up with doing a reunion duet:

"Ivory, and Ivory, together in perfect harmony..."
